I rarely ever play IL-2, but I wanted to get my installation up to date with the latest and greatest. I was trying to figure out which mod pack I wanted to install (so many options, different patch level requirements, so many install steps.... ahhh!) and fired up 4.12.2 to see what it looked like with no mods...

Amazing how nice it looks for as old as it is. I think I'll go unmodded for a while.

(I do have AA enabled via RadeoPro and SweetFX for just a little contrast and sharpening)

I still fly IL2_1946 without any mods. Looks really good for a game that is more than a decade old.

Wow. I feel like I just discovered a whole new game. I'd totally forgotten how fun this is. And after all the patches and continued support it looks REALLY good.

A lot of fire power concentrated in the nose of a P-38...

I recently reinstalled it, going no mods due to the incredible over-abundance of choice, patch levels, what they do, and so on.

No mods here, either. I really enjoy the "vanilla" game. The mission editor is surprisingly powerful.

I'm running two versions... HSFX7 and a vanilla install.
The good thing is with the vanilla install, you can simply load all your mod sound files and presets into the existing game folders, and have all those great engine sounds in the stock install smile

Just before and just after my first 2 A/A kills of the campaign. Wish I would have remembered to get shots of one or both...
