Finally! This is the first flight sim I can actually surprise the enemy. It is great to use the clouds and sun for cover.

The newest (and, paradoxically, the oldest) Fokkers E1 moving towards the front line.

And going back home

Enjoying these screenshots immensely, please keep posting (our computer is still rebelling against all things CFS3 at present, so I am enjoying WOFF vicariously).
I am particularly drawn to one of Hellshade's triplane pics from 11th Jan, the second one down with the single machine heading to the right of the shot. I have always found the streaky Fokker factory finish quite pleasing anyway and the tones, lighting, clouds and composition of this shot seem to convey 'being in the air' superbly.

Wow Rover, Great screenshots! I especially like the center pic with the view from behind the gun. Nice angle and lighting there.

Here's an oddball. I was flying in a mixed purpose squadron in January 1915 in the Morane Type L. It's not a bad plane and handles reasonably well for that time period. I saw a couple Aviatiks headed into allied territory on my way back from a bombing run. I gave chase and figured I could fight them using the observer gunner. It took awhile to catch up but finally I managed to get ahead and underneath them. That's normally where you don't want to be in a scout, but with only observer guns, I figured I could slide underneath and wipe them out. I managed to get a few hits on one until he started to smoke. I drifted to one side of them a bit, but still underneath. Unfortunately their guns were able to fire down and over the side. My pilot was shot twice and wounded quite badly. The observer was also wounded. I managed to bring the plane back and successfully land, but the game said my pilot and observer later both died from their injuries. I did get a confirmed claim of one of the Aviatiks in the end.

What I liked about it was the fact that it had that really primitive dogfight feel, of the sort they must have had in the days before the synchronized machine guns. You can't just drop in behind and go to work with the front gun. You have to sort of drift in on them and let your gunner shoot as best he can. It's really awkward and I'd imagine a crew with even 2 or 3 kills like this must have been "aces" in their time. Trying to do it this way makes you realize why the British used the pusher FE2b and the Vickers Gunbus- you get that front mounted gunner that you want, with a full range of fire.

My young pilot and his squadron were given a rail junction attack mission just after receiving his 9th confirmed kill. After dropping our Cooper bombs, we began strafing rail cars and buildings. Turning into my second strafing run, I'm struck by what is obviously a lot of shrapnel from an Archie burst. I'm seriously wounded and, worse, my fuel is leaking so bad the tank runs out in about six seconds.

Being so low to the ground, I'm thinking I may still end up alive despite being a guest of the Germans. The ground and my low airspeed held a different opinion.

This was the first time I had actually been hit so catastrophically by an Archie burst! smile I was always far more concerned about the ground-based machinegun fire down there.

Took a hard bounce and flipped on touchdown.

Not... gonna... make.. it..
