So this morning I was looking at my PC and I was thinking I know I'll open it up and clean the dust from the front filters, huge big massive mistake. So here I am sat on the floor with both door off my PC when I leaned forward and then had the most excruciatingly burning pain from my ass cheek up to the small of my back. So instead of visiting my parents this morning I've spent all day layed up on the sofa. I can just about stand up but I can't straighten up and I'm lewaning to my left hand side. It feels like my spine is locked up. I had this a few years ago although worse then and the doctor just told me that the little bones on the back of my vertebrae had locked together and should work loose. Wouldn't be so bad but I can't even sit on the loo comfitably.

when that happens to me I put a tennis ball in the area and lie down on it, using the ball to massage the offending muscles. stretching them back out. It can hurt, but always works for me.

Only thing that works for me is lying down on an ice bag.
Hope it feels better.

You have my full sympathy Donk, been there a few times. It always seems to happen when I am doing nothing too strenuous as well. Not happened for a while, fingers crossed.
I take anti-inflammatory and pain killers and try to keep moving.Sitting down usually ends up with me trying to get back up for the next 30 minutes.

Many years ago I was at Barnes and Noble book store, I bent down to reach a magazine on the lower rack and felt a twinge in my back. Later that day I could not get out of my recliner I used for my computer. I spent a week in that recliner and finally got out but hurtin for a month or so.

I don't know if I've had that specific issue or not, but back pain simply sucks. I've had a couple of spells where it seemed similar to that, but I'm still assuming it was muscle related. A few hours on the heating pad and I was a lot better.

And people wonder why I religiously stretch my back and strengthen my core. I am scared to death of back issues. I've gotten them a few times from tight hip flexers, but I work them out. One of the soldiers who is like 10 years younger than me is about to have serious back surgery next month. I'm worried for him.
You have my sympathies.

Core exercises. Learn them. Love them.
I've burst 3 disks in my lower back and the strength of the muscles around my lower spine is the only thing that keeps me from being crippled.

Archery is good therapy for back problems, as correct drawing is done with the back and shoulder muscles, not the arms. Unless you are using a poncy compound bow of course. I shoot in a 60lb longbow with 32" shafts.

Read this book: http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection/dp/0446557684Recommended to me by the ER doctor at UNC who was examining me for horrible back pain shooting down both legs. I have had chronic SI joint and lower vertebrae problems, but it hasn't really bothered me in months (and I re-gravelled a driveway 2 days ago). At first the book seems a little too new-age-y, but it's not really. But give it a chance, there are some interesting theories and arguments to ponder. At least, it won't hurt to read it.
