Servus,

On the 6th of November 2013 we played a mission made by Gladiator.
The name of the mission is "Bissiger Serval".
I was OC of a tank company.
All tanks in Alpha and Bravo Platoon (plt) had a human player.

The first question of Gladiator, yes the guy from the Lappland and First Clash mission, was:
“Duke can I have a tank?”. This time I said, yes sure, but you are now the Bravo Platoon Commander.
The Alpha Platoon Commander was Falli (our movie maker).

1.situation:
a)enemy:
Red attacks with 2 reinforced MechInfBtn`s to the west. We think one Btn will attack through Tidemanns
Horst and will take the town SANDEHORST. We think the other btn will attack our positions and take the
bridges over the MÜHLENBACH and the EMMER.
Red has a lot of artillery units in this sector.
It`s rainy and foggy, so no enemy airforce activities.

b)own:
We are the 2nd company of Tank Btn 304 and took battle positions (bp) between Bhf HIMMIGHAUSEN and
ERPENTRUP. Our left neighbor is the 4th company of the Armd Inf Btn 301. They defend SANDEHORST and have a
combat outpost on the security line (SL).
Our right neighbor is our 3rd company.
Since 2 hours we have parts of the Armd Recon Btn 300 in front of us and they overwatch the bridges.

Our company has 2 active Platoons (Alpha and Bravo) Leo1A3 with 4 tanks each platoon.
Charly plt can be activate by trigger.
We have 1x ARV (Wisent), 1x M113medic and 1 Ammo truck MAN 10t.
And the OC has also a Leo1A3.

2.mission
1. move to SL and establish combat outpost
2. delay enemy units in your sector between SL and PL WALHALLA.

3. execution
My intention was to move forward with Alpha along K3 and with Bravo along L755.
To establish two combat outposts, with point of main effort to overwatch the area north and northeast of
OEYNHAUSEN. After enemy contact, to delay enemy from SL to PL ODIN, PL THOR and PL WALHALLA with Alpha
along K3 and Bravo along L755.
To defend GREVENHAGEN (PL WALHALLA), here last man standing.

Platoon orders:
Alpha plt:
After mission start move forward along K3 to SL
Establish combat outpost with 2 tanks in bp1.
In bp1 overwatch the Railroad tracks and the western part OEYNHAUSEN and road L951.
Take bp with the other section in HIMMIGHAUSEN.
Defend flexible between in bp 1, 6 and 8.
On my order fall back to bp 9.
On my order fall back to PL Odin.
On PL Odin overwatch the western part of HIMMIGHAUSEN and take flanking positions to K3.
Use bp 10, 11 and 12.
Adapt to support BRAVO in bp 13 with 1 section.
On my order fall back to PL WALHALLA.
Defend north eastern part of GREVENHAGEN, point of main effort over watching the railroad bridges.
Adapt to support Bravo and Charly in bp 15 and 16.

Bravo plt:
After mission start move forward along road L755 to SL.
Establish combat outpost with the plt in bp2.
In bp2 overwatch the area north and northeast of OEYNHAUSEN.
On my order fall back to PL Thor and try to flank enemy from bp 3, 4 and 5.
On my order fall back south of L755 through the woods to PL ODIN.
Use PL 13 and 14 to flank enemy on L755.
On my order fall back to PL WALHALLA and defend the south eastern part in bp 15.
Adapt to support Alpha in bp 17 and Charly in bp16.

Charly plt:
Move to bp 13.
Adapt to support Bravo or adapt to overwatch Alpha in bp 10.
On my order fall back to PL WALHALLA and defend the center in bp 16 with 1 section.
The other section move to VVD 3 as new reserve.
Adapt to support Alpha, Bravo or Charly.

Support Vehicles:
After mission start ARV and medic move to VVD 1(Supply area 1).
Ammo truck move to VVD 2.
On my order support company.
On my order fall back to VVD 2 or 3.

All units have weapon free.
We have artillery (2 plt with 3 tubes each), on my request.
We have 2 prepared fire missions Art1 and Art2.
It`s rainy and foggy so no CAS support.

My position is behind Bravo plt in the south.

Questions?

No, Ok then we can start.

After reloading all units moved to their positions.

unfortunatly we were not reloading some bottles of HOLSTEN

x+01:43

Wisent and MAN10t on the road

I`m in position.

The area was overwatched by recon units so after 8min we established our bp´s on SL.

x+08:28

I don`t activated the Charly plt via trigger. That’s why he is always on PL WALHALLA.

Bravo 3 callsign in position.

After 12 minutes I got a SITRP from my left neighbor. They had contact with an enemy BTR-80 plt.

x+12:18

x+13:18

After 13 minutes my Bravo plt reported a single BMP-1 north east of OEYNHAUSEN and opened fire.

x+15:18

After 15 minutes we saw a BMP company was attacking our positions.
Alpha and Bravo were in fire fight with this company.
I thought, ok only 1 BMP-1 company no problem, but a short time later I saw 2 Leo1A3s burning in bp2; damn.
The red attack was supported by a lot of HE/smoke artillery fire. My tanks had to change their positions very often.

x+17:18

Now I gave Bravo the order to fall back to bp 3 and take a flanking position to L755.
I also moved back over the bridge and talked to the recon guys.
Alpha was now in bp 6 and used the short break to reloading.

I move back over the bridge.

x+23:18

Our left neighbor reported an enemy bridgelayer and another BMP-1 company near OEYNHAUSEN.
Alpha did a very good job on the left side so I decided to stay on the right side and support Bravo.

I order an artillery strike.

On the right side I ordered an artillery strike behind the bridge to give Bravo the chance to reorganize and to reload.
During this time the reported enemy BMP-1 coy attacked the bp of the Alpha platoon.

x+26:28

Callsign Alpha 2 in action.

x+26:58

Callsign Alpha 2 in action again.

x+28:32

and again Alpha 2

The Alpha plt leader was fighting very flexible in his area, but he was running out of ammo and the enemy was still in attack with a lot of artillery support. After the SITREP of Alpha leader I gave the order to fall back to PL ODIN.

x+28:53

x+31:18

Alpha was moving back, but the enemy was attacking very fast. With a lucky shot they immobilized one Leo. Alpha asked for the ARV. No problem, I was also in command of the support vehicles and the ARV moved to the north very quickly.

x+32:58

Just in this time Bravo reported an enemy tank near the bridge and the enemy fired some artillery missions to support the attack of the tanks against the last two Bravo callsigns. The ARV commander was nerveous. He had a tank his flank and was moving through HE/smoke artillery fire.
During his movement the Alpha plt protected their immobilized callsign and destroyed 3 BMPs.

ARV on march.

x+33:38

under Artillery fire

The Bravo leader was reporting another Tank near the bridge, damn 2min:49sec till my artillery mission will start.
Very long minutes in this phase.
I sent my Medic back to VVD 2. Alpha reported some engine sounds in their area; tanks?

x+33:58

The Alpha leader sent one callsign back to PL ODIN. This was good, because from bp 10 you could overwatch the west of HIMMIGHAUSEN.
Seconds later Alpha was in fire fight with a section of PT-76 and the ARV was still under artillery fire.

x+34:03

under Arty fire again

Alpha 3 face to face to a PT-76

x+34:48

The Alpha plt destroyed the two PT-76 and the ARV started his recovery mission.

hit

x+35:58

ARV behind Alpha

ARV in position

x+36:38

Back to PL Odin

During this time everything worked well, Alpha was moving to PL ODIN and Bravo was in a flanking position against the enemy tanks.
But the enemy fired a lot of artillery missions again, I also ordered an ICM strike to block the enemy eastwards MERLSHEIM. Bravo reported now an enemy tank plt and 01min: 43sec left to my arty strike, damn.

I´m in position and enemy Artillery strike in front of me.

x+39:23

In the north I could hear the Leos moving. Bad news from Bravo. The platoon leader became the hunting fever and got a hit. His driver was injured and he could not move back.
I gave them the order to destroy the Leo, walk to the last Bravo callsign and to fall back to bp 14.
In this mission the Bravo plt was killing me. They ignored my order and I ordered my ARV to MERLSHEIM. I also talked to the Fire support officer to block the enemy 5 min more eastwards MERLSHEIM.
I activated via trigger the Charly plt.
The mission for Charly was to move to bp 13 and to flank Road L755.

ARV in action, in the background Alpha.

driver injured

x+41:13

x+41:23 I gave one section of Charly to a new player (didi21at).

x+43:48

The Bravo leader destroyed 2 tanks and a bridgelayer.

x+43:53

ARV is parking the immobilized Leo behind PL ODIN.

x+48:13

A kingdom for a HOLSTEN.

500m to go

x+52:23

The ARV was driving very fast and in x+ 52min the ARV was in position for a last jump to the Bravo callsign. But now the enemy tanks started their attack.
The Bravo 1 callsign was in a perfect flanking position and destroyed 3 tanks. So the ARV could now move to the BRAVO callsign.

x+52:28

go, go, go

recovery 2

Bravo 1 changes his bp and spotted another enemy tank, and destroyed this tank too. But he got also a hit and his main gun was damaged. I repeated the blocking artillery mission again and the ARV drove back with the Bravo leader in the back to bp 14. I also gave the Bravo 1 callsign the order to follow the ARV, but he was not moving.

x+54:08

x+54:23

x+55:48

on the road again

ARV Wisent commanders place

x+59:48

I´m in position, the ARV is moving behind me.

Sorry guys I lost the pictures of the last 20 Minutes, but I will tell you the story.
In the last 20 Minutes the Alpha platoon had no problems to destroy 3 BRDM-2 AT and some
BMPs. The Bravo 1 callsign was retreating through the woods. He reached the road L755 and died, because just in this moment 2 T-55 passed him and destroyed him.
The 2 T-55 were destroyed a short time later by the Charly plt in bp 13.

This was our last enemy contact for 10 Minutes. The Alpha plt leader wanted a recon mission to HIMMIGHAUSEN. I said yes, but only till bp 9. One section of Charly I sent along road L755 to overwatch the bridge in the north of MERLSHEIM.

After 1hour and 20minutes the mission was over. The immobilized Alpha callsign was combat ready again and the injured driver of Bravo we could also reanimated.
We destroyed a reinforced BMP-1 btn and lost 3 tanks.
I think 3 tanks to much in this situation.

mission accomplished

A very good mission scripted by Gladiator with a lot of different variations.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers

Duke

Servus,

thanks, this time a lot of pictures of the ARV. The original title of this AAR was "90 Minutes with an ARV commander".

If I play a multiplayer game I often run FRAPS. I don`t use it for videos, FRAPS make all 5 sec a screenshot and after a normal mission you have to check over 1200 pictures.

I´m working on a new AAR but where is the time when you need some.

cheers

Duke
