The Wolf Of Wall Street broke the record for dropping the F-Bomb. They used it 506 times in 180 minutes. Spike Lee's Summer of Sam held the record previously of 435.

Two movies we were just talking about are up on the list too.

Casino 422
Goodfellas 300

Now back to Wolf of Wall Street, I divided it out and they dropped the F-Bomb 2.81 times per minute. Must have been a really easy script to write.

Yeah really. I was convinced that "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" had the record.

Jay personally holds the record, but he's not the star of those other films.

Surprised its not banned in the US, don't you lot hate fear swearing more than anything? Sex and extreme violence are fine but no swearing or saying 'god' allowed smile

Rated R films and cable shows can have as many F bombs as they want. It's mostly just the major network tv shows that aren't allowed to have it.

How many F bombs are in Dr. Who?? wink

I don't watch much TV or films, but from those I've seen... I can't say this is anywhere near correct.

Remember Captain Kirk at the end of "The City on the Edge of Forever" saying "Let's get the hell out of here"?

Why do you remember it?

It's because that was the only time he cursed in the entire series. The curse MEANT SOMETHING. It made a point.

Same with Rhett Butler in "Gone With The Wind" and his "My dear, I don't give a damn."

Saying F^%K over and over and over just to set the record (that's the only reason I can see for almost 3 F's per minute in any film) is just stupid.

I'll make a prediction, "The Wolf Of Wall Street" will be long forgotten when "Gone With The Wind" is still being watched 50 years from now.

I think Kirk said damn once or twice in the original series as well, but I think it stands out more because of *when* the series was on, not because it was used to make a point. Back in the '60s, swearing was very rare on US TV in general, so any swearing, for any reason, would stand out.

For the f-bombs, I think if you're trying to represent people accurately in film, and that's the way they talk, then it's generally OK to do that, but 3 times a minute does seem a bit extreme.

Does Hollywood do "accuracy"? Or more "dramatization"? wink

Well, I think they sometimes try to give the impression of accuracy, and try to show what kind of characters you're dealing with, but certainly not accurate in content.

The issue is the characterization. Maybe you don't personally know anyone that swears that often. I've met several over the years. It's not shock value if it's accurate.

Jedi, there was a kid I worked with years back and I swear every other word was F this, F that.... I couldn't stand being around him. It was like watching Eddie Murphy's RAW act, I shut it off because they had no meaning to his act. Just shock and awe...

All is Lost - Redford. Two words in the whole movie, one is a very meek 'no' uttered under his breath..the other is a long distraught 'FFFFFFuuuuuuuuuu## !!!!'

Wonder if that is some sort of record..50 percent of the words were the f bomb smile
