I'm most definitely a day VFR fighter pilot...well except for what turned out to be my last sortie with 56 Sqdn. A sunset launch on an intercept mission. I couldn't see for squat, so I diverted early to LeChelle. Almost clipped a tree line at the field boundary. Night landings are scary! My transfer to 20 Sqdn with Bristol Fighters came through! Finally. 2d Lt Corruthers is paired with an excellent Observer, Capt Frehley. During our OP behind German lines B Flt attacked several Pfalz scouts. The fight took place over their aerodrome Le Petrie. I rejoined on one and pulled abeam then ahead. Frehley peppered his motor. I watched as the EA stalled, did a tail slide, then two turns in a spin then recovered. Well done OBD! Frehley peppered him again, finally this EA landed perpendicular to the landing path, but crumpled his undercarriage. I coaxed another EA into Frehley's crosshairs, and he flamed it. My goal is to make Frehley an Ace (any KISS fans out there?) I flamed a balloon before searching for B Flt. We rejoined with A Flt for the return leg home. We were the only crew in B Flt to make it home. We lost one machine and crew, whilst our HAs landed early with damaged crates.

Wow, I had never seen this orange sunset light before, Hellshade - which time was that?

High over the Front
|
March 3, 1917 with 60 Squadron. I just reported in but the CO must think I have the "look" as he assigns me, a newly minted Lieutenant, as flight leader to escort some Be's (poor devils) on a bombing run on German front area targets. Near the front about 5 Alb DII's come charging up and are occupied by my flight except for one who had the bad manners to ignore us and make for the Be's anyway. That's them in the lower right. I come up behind him and in two 3 second bursts it is all over. He pays the ultimate price for his poor social skills. Forming back up with the Be's I take them back across the line when another Alb comes flying up. In a couple of passes I shoot his engine out and he crash lands just inside Hun territory. Fly back merrily to base. Bombing mission a success, all of my flight returns safely, and I have two kills. Apparently the Squadron Leaders trust was well placed!

Damn, Duke - it hurts to see an Albatros falling like that, this shot is really dramatic!

Well, after 21 missions, Rother Nought finally got that promotion he was bucking for and moved up to scouts. He picked up bus 8932 the other day and had it repainted in his personal livery... It's literally been, like, 4 months since I have flown a pup in game, it's quite fun!

Did Rother Nought bag the sausage? Actually, it was a railyard attack. I like to have a little more Ompff than just a single Vickers though when I go on those... Clever name play. I am afraid I am much too much of a TA to do that. In fact I always use my real name. Hehe...nice paint job though. Wait, you real name is DukeIronHand?!?
