Search through posts by "Mue" over at combatace. He posted some files that let you turn the labels (normally visible with HUD mode set to easy) into small dots. The user can select the color (I set mine to black) and they're visible up to 10 miles away. It makes air combat possible and fun without the use of all the arcade style visual aids! It's what inspired me to reinstall the series.

Here you can see a distant dogfight just to the right of the right mirror, and then a little further to the right still just above the horizon.
