I d/l an optimization guide for FSX, changed the cfg to one provided, and got this lovely result:  thank goodness I saved my old one...

Just Get Prepar3d and save youself the trouble of dealing with FSX

Prepar3D isn't a 'magic bullet' for all of FSX' woes. And you can encounter new headaches with aftermarket mods.
That said, P3D 2.0, due out any day now, looks to be the new civvie sim to beat.
