While day dreaming about what my dream home pit would be like, I decided to have another look at Spitsim.co.uk.

Looks like they have expanded their range

Prices look good IMO

They have had them on there for a few weeks, would really love to get a set. Complete price is above what I can afford unfortunately.

Had a chance to use a prototype at the flight sim convention as the Helicopter Museum and they were brilliant. I think they have upgraded the sensors since then.

i highly would avoid hydraulic dampeners. you joints and wrists will wear out quick, say hello to carpal tunnel...

I believe the SpitSim no longer uses hydraulic dampers for control loading, but linear friction dampers instead, all adjustable by the user. They come pre-adjusted to give you the correct control forces as felt at cruise speed in a Spit. Of course the user can change the control feel as much as desired.

The SpitSim is being constantly improved by Mr. Jon Fellows, the designer, to be as accurate a simulation of the Spitfire's flight controls as possible. New equipment/options will include:

Hall sensors to be used instead of linear pots

Differential brakes - the brake lever as it is now is an 'on-off' switch, activating both brakes at once. The new design will act in the same way as in the real aircraft, the lever activates the brake pressure and it is sent to both brakes equally or differentially based on whether the pedals are centered or not. Full left rudder means only the left brake is activated, etc.

New flap selector switch

The spade grip has been refined, the "SpitSim Mk.II" version was cast using a real Mk.IX grip as an example.

Brake Lever

The original SpitSim spade grip was cast as one piece from the roll pivot upwards. The new version is attached onto the roll arm like in the real aircraft. This will probably make it easier to switch grips out once the cannon button version has been designed. This is, of course, my opinion only as I have no idea when the cannon version of the grip will be available.

Mr. Fellows is also working on an MDF Spitfire cockpit section for pit builders:

Cheers!

Thanks Jocko
Good info there. I've long admire what Jon has produced.

I love the Spit replica controls and would dearly love to have a full setup from him.

But as the original link was to the generic Edge range they have introduced.
The prices there aren't too bad IMO.
£235 for pedals is very good and £695 for the Spadegrip equipped stick for generic WWII RAF experience is doable to.

More affordable than the full Spit setup.

He's also started doing what Thrustmaster originally intended (but never managed) to do: Interchangeable stick grips. Lots of folks would like a P-51 style grip for WW2 sims or a B-8 grip for early jets, myself included. Now what he needs to do is offer different throttle quadrants to match. smile

Cheers!

I'd also appreciate an F-16 style stick. While it lacks authenticity for historic aircraft, it' gives far more button options, making it far more adaptable to other titles. If you're spending that much on a stick, might as well be able to use it in other sims.
