Now, where do you see your role in this, except for telling to target this or that vessel?! The manual targeting from TF1942 may be fun but is arcadish.
I think having options is good. Similar to how Dangerous Waters lets you use autocrew for all of the stations, or do it yourself.

I would be excited to see a WW2 based naval simulation. I played the daylights out of Fighting Steel and the Great Naval Battle's series. Jutland is a great wargame and I have enjoyed playing it but would love to have something that was closer and more hands on as far as computing and firing weapons.
The Atlantic has a lot of good options available, from River Plate to the Bismark to the sinking of the Scharnhorst but to do it right you will have to include the Med, there could have been some, and there was some good battles in that area. The Italian fleet was a serious thorn in the side of the British and if it had been used correctly it could have won the war for the Axis. Mussolini being too cautious with his fleet meant it was never used in force but it could have been a serious threat if given the opportunity.
In the end people will want to go with some of the Pacific battles though. Ironbottom Sound, destruction of the Kirishima, a ton of 'what ifs' to include the Musashi and Yamato against the Iowas. Add in the cruisers and destroyers and you could have a real fun game.

I could be interested if it were similar to Silent Hunter. Alternate universe stuff would be a dealbreaker for me personally though.
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

If this simulation has a good mission editor with maps/theaters, hypothetical scenarios can be done by the user/community rather then the developer who can stick to doing historical stuff.
I really hope that there are game options included concerning the gunnery and other ship systems. A Silent Hunter type approach would probably be best allowing the player to make it as hard or as easy as they would like.

I wouldn't mind, at least as an add on, something which had some of the what if or never was capital ships that never made it to the ocean. A battle between one of the H Class BBs and the Montana class would be fun to simulate although it certainly wouldn't be realistic.

I'm no student of naval history but going historical only means the number of juicy battleship vs battleship scenarios will be limited.
What is there? There's some good fights in the pre dreadnaught era Russo-Japanese war, Jutland and not a whole lot else for WW1, and less than 10 engagments in WW2, none of which were really decisive. Totally agree CH. My dream ultimate battleship simulator would include everything from the Spanish American War through WW2.

There's some good fights in the pre dreadnaught era Russo-Japanese war, Jutland and not a whole lot else for WW1, and less than 10 engagments in WW2, none of which were really decisive. A possible solution to that would be a campaign. Could be similar to TF1942 or Jutland, with the historical forces under your command, but you deciding where and how to use them. Esp. in the TF1942 campaign you usually recreated the Suva Island battle, but from there thing change based on the battle outcome and more... With the historic battles you are limited to scenarios that just recreate that respective battle. But creating a campaign with a competent (AI) opponent on strategic level could be a daunting task. And add to that a competent combat AI...
