SkySerpent,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I saw the other post but I have been swamped of late and haven't had an opportunity to address this until now.

First, we need to narrow down the scope of your issue. Is the problem that you can't get EF2000 working in 1680x1050, or is the problem that you can't get TACTCOM/GFX+ running in 3DFX mode? From your second paragraph it appears that the resolution is at least one issue, but this actually may not be the case.

DOSBox for EF2000 is designed to run in windowed mode with a hidden title bar in order to simulate fullscreen mode, as actual fullscreen mode causes issues between 2D and 3D views with 3DFX. Because it's optimized for 3DFX and renders the polys prior to the DOSBox renderer, there is also no scaling by default. This means that if you run the original unaccelerated EF2000, you may see a fullscreen that looks like 640x400, but is actually the resolution you specified. So the question is do you see a "fullscreen" EF2000 or a small window? If you see a "fullscreen" you are getting the desired resolution.

If you're looking for TACTCOM/GFX+ issues, I can't help you there beyond what is in the manual (I have EF2000 V2.0 myself), but there is a post on the CombatSim.com EF2000 forum titled "please copy to the Tactcom directory" error solved. This might be of some use.

Hope this helps.

Not a lot to go on, so a couple of questions:
1. Do you have the TrackIR box ticked in the config tool?
2. What Graphics card/chipset are you using?

Stratos,

Another thing you can try for mor information is to click on the wrench icon, then in the configuration screen select the box that says "Stop Autoexec just before running EF2000 (for troubleshooting). At that point you can run EF2000 manually and the DOSBOX session should stay open after the program crashes. You might get more information then.

Any chance of having this classic Sim fully downloadable WITHOUT having to have the game disc at all like Total Air War? Thanks.

I just got a better PC a while ago and decided to re-try EF2000 3dfx. It looks amazing! However, is there a way to have a wide angled track like the "k" key in TAW that doesn't padlock to another plane?

Also, is mouselook an option?

Thank you

I believe F2 does the wide angle view, though this only works in padlock. Since the native resolution is 640x400, you need the "narrow field" view to read the MFDs.

No mouselook support either since the mouse is used to navigate between MFD screens in VFX1/TrackIR view (Alt-F1).

Difference between this and the Total Air War mod is that the TAW mod changed datafiles which means that (at least with TAW) you can't use the CD. We didn't change anything with EF2000, so there's no compelling reason to make it a "full release".

Thank you HomeFries. I have heard mentions about Strategic Command for EF2000 and is there any way to download it since the website is down? It looks amazing and if anyone has it (or knows where to get it) can you please let me know? Thanks.

Does anyone have a pdf version of the manual for this game/sim? I have searched a good chunk of the internet with no luck. Also how many manuals were there for this game?
Thanks

Actually... IIRC the original manual was Red and Black on white pages... Hehe that was as thick as a brick.

Lovely.

PDF was in its infancy when EF2000 was released; I wouldn't count on anything beyond the scanned copies.
