Ok, I Played with this some today. Part I, If you Bought A-10C 1.1.1.1 From Steam, You Do NOT Need to buy the DLC, AFAIKAfter Choosing to Install DCSW Via Steam Store, Once it started downloading the Sim, I double clicked on it. And Immediately Noticed I Had DCS A-10C DLC Under the Licenses/Serials for DCSW. (Im not sure if this is because I bought DCS:A-10C 1.1.1.1 on Steam or not) The Key in the Dialog did not Match my DCS:A-10C 1.1.1.1 Standalone Key. So, After it downloaded and Did the First Time install, I booted it up. The Version on Steam is v1.2.5.15865. A-10C Did not Have the "$" Icon, And when Checking my options, I found all of my controls and GFX Options were Set. **NOTE, I DID HAVE TO COPY MY CUSTOM MONITOR CONFIGURATION TO THE STEAM DCS INSTALL FOLDER** I Started a Instant Mission with the A-10C on the Ramp, during the first stage loading screen the "Auto Authentication" Dialog Box Popped up for a Second then closed, Mission Loaded and I was sitting in my A-10C Cockpit. So I DID NOT Have to Re-Purchase DCS:A-10C for Steam. (Note, I cannot confirm if it's because I bought A-10C 1.1.1.1 on Steam, But Like I stated, the DLC License was already listed before it even finished downloading A-10C.) Next Step in Testing was to load a Self Contained 3rd Party module (Without DRM), Ie, TeamVRC's F-100D Module in progress. Copying the Folder from the Standalone DCSW Folder to the Steam Folder was quick and painless. Booted DCS World, and Sure Enough, the Icon was there, Started a Instant Mission, and Everything Loaded as it Should. ------------------------------------ Part II, Force Updating Steam DCSW to Match Versions of the latest Modules, and the Rest of DCSW Stanalone Installs (for MP Compatibility)Ok, Now the plan is to update to the latest version, since Steam is behind. After locating the DCS_Updater.exe in the /Bin/ Folder, making the .BAT file ("DCS_updater.exe update 1.2.5.16184") and Running it, I Was presented with this error: Teh 2 Files are : autoupdate.cfg and autoupdate.db Copying the 2 Files from DCSW Standalone Folder to the DCSW Steam Folder Solved that Error, Allowing me to Start the Updater which then began verifying the installation. From there it began download 706MB, *Note, The Update Size is large because Steam Only installed DCSW and the A-10C Module, My autoupdate.cfg told the updater to download all the modules I have installed on my standalone DCSW Install So I Cancelled the update and edited my CFG File to only list WORLD and A-10C (Removing the other modules so it wont have to download them) Original: { "arch": "x86_64", "lang": "EN", "modules": [ "A-10C", "WORLD", "P-51D", "FC3" ]} Changed To: { "arch": "x86_64", "lang": "EN", "modules": [ "A-10C", "WORLD" ]} Note: if you dont change them, the updater will download them all fresh, it will take longer, than just copying them from one folder to another after the update., After which you should add the modules back, to update w/ future updates.
Started the update again, and it downloaded 77 or so MB, Instantly, and patched nearly instantly. Then Finished: Clicked OK, DCS World Booted Up and listed the most recent Version, v1.2.5.16184, It also Added the Huey A-10A and SU-25 Icons: I Am now Able to go online and fly w/ people that run standalone DCSWorld. (Well I Havent Logged in in from my Steam, as I Dont want to bind the new A-10C Serial just Yet) ------------------------------------ Part III, Transfering my Modules from Standalone DCSW to DCSW on Steam.(*Note, I'm Skipping A-10C because It's already installed and Activated with DCSW on Steam for Me.) First Module I Started with was Flaming Cliffs 3, Since it's a Smaller folder. <LocalDrive>/Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/mods/aircrafts/. Copied the Entire /Flaming Cliffs/ Folder to DCSW Steam Folder <LocalDrive>/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/DCSWorld/Mods/aircrafts/. Booted DCSW from Steam, And the Main Menu Came Up with FC3 Icon without the $ on it, and the A-10A and SU-25 Icons are Now Hidden. Started A Quick/Instant Mission with the A-10A, DCSW Loaded the Mission and I was able to Fly the A-10A with 3d 6DoF Cockpit, NO ACTIVATIONS REQUIRED. Next Step, Moved Onto DCS:P-51D, Copied the Folder, Booted DCS, Everything Shows up on the Mainscreen as purchased, and is flyable. . repeat for KA-50, UH-1H, Combined Arms, Etc. So Fully Working and Updated DCSW without having to re-do any activations, and within Steam.
And it doesnt interfere with the original Standalone DCSW Install.

Good stuff! Wonder how it will work when an update hits... or if you will just have to repeat the steps Run the DCS_Update.exe again, just put the correct.cfg file back so it downloads the updates for all the modules you have. I'm pretty sure the force update adds the HUEY ICON, as well as changing the ICONS to ED's Store intead of DCSW on Steam, it also Adds the Module Manager Back. Once Steam puts out an Update and you run file checker it will prolly change all that stuff back. Adding modules does not bind them to your steam account purchase history, they must be installed and activated normally. I Simply Copied them from my 1.2.5.16184 Folder to my Steam Folder after a forced update.

Hehe, Skate, wrong forum. Huh? it's DCSW. I was merely copy/pasting the entire post w/ the question, so people would see the answer and know what I was talking about.

For the updater to force update, you'd need those 2 files. you can make the autoupdate.cfg file in notepad easily. the autoupdate.db on the other hand is another story. The guide was simply for people that wanted To Install it Via Steam.... but wanted to move their Modules already purchased to their steam install. After they copy those files over. They could delete the standalone DCS Install and modify the Autoupdate CFG File to only update the modules they bought outside of steam, and leave the core of DCSWorld Alone. So Steam would Update DCSW and Any modules bought from Steam, then you make a backup of the CFG and modify to (for example) :{ "arch": "x86_64", "lang": "EN", "modules": [ "P-51D", "FC3", "UH-1H" ]} to force update the modules that steam is not monitoring. (ie the ones purchases outside of steam). The Problem is waiting for steam to push the updates, as right now, they are still behind. Forcing the update to the latest version was to make it MP Compatible and Compatible with your Modules from your Standalone DCSW, it pretty much replaces Steam's Files with ED's files in regards to Icon Buy Links and Module Management as well as updating.Once Steam Pushes the update on their end it will verify and replace the files with their versions. Are you sure it's within Steam? Steam version doesn't the Module Manager option in the menu. Read the part in Bold.

FWIW, Matt is actively discussing with Steam on allowing non-Steam bought modules/DLC to activate from within Steam now. As I said before, there usually isn't any financial/tech issues with doing it but there are a bunch of things to sort out first (registering the ED keys in the Steam meta app etc..) http://steamcommunity.com/app/223750/discussions/0/864975249593929403/What SZ is doing is cool (and interesting too) but wanted to say in-case it gets overtaken by events pretty soon anyway.

well this is just a work around until the ability to use keys to install via steam is settled.
I was able to do the force update on another system without DCSW Installed by copying the autoupdatedb and making an update CFG file to only update DCSW.

Hmmm well that was confusing or Im just tired, Probably the later. Anywho I noticed WAGS updated the original update post to say they are working with steam to get the modules accepted that weren't bought thru steam. I think Ill wait till that happens, since I am in no rush to try any of this lol!
