SimHQ has been invited to the 6th annual 1C Game Night tomorrow, July 25th, and it's promising to be a good one. 1C will be showing off their current in-work titles, including their "two biggest titles ever": a new combat flight sim from people that developed IL-2 and their post-apocalyptic Nuclear Union. Gee, which combat flight sim could they possibly be talking about? wink

In addition to the hot games, 1C has also invited some special guests including a real-life RAF aviator and the Hyrda Lord Nerdfather himself, Ivan Van Norman.

If all that wasn't awesome enough, the venue is the USS Hornet, an Essex-class aircraft carrier that served in WWII that is now a floating museum in Alameda in the California Bay Area. Sweet, eh?

Follow me on the SimHQ twitter for on-the-scene pics and tweets (connectivity permitting!) and keep watching this thread for updates.

While you're waiting for updates, here's some interesting history of the USS Hornet, 1C's choice of venue.

"1C will be showing off their current in-work titles, including their "two biggest titles ever": a new combat flight sim from people that developed IL-2 and their post-apocalyptic Nuclear Union."

To be brutally honest, my experience with a previous flight sim title by 1C has left me more than sceptical about any of 1C's claims or what they may offer as a 'preview'. Just so we're clear, the new flight sim is not "a new combat flight sim from people that developed IL-2" as advertised. I believe the development team are an entirely new set of people from those that have developed previous IL2 titles. In addition, the 1C Company has partnered with 777 Studios to form a joint venture named 1C Game Studios. It is 1C Game Studios that is publishing IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad.

Big apologies to all for the complete lack of updates. In hind-sight, connectivity on a WWII-era carrier should not have been assumed to have been a sure thing! wink

The event was amazing. Hanging out on any aircraft carrier is always a sure bet for a good time, but the USS Hornet is a special ship with an incredible history.

It shouldn't have been a big surprised, but IL2 Battle of Stalingrad was the combat flight sim revealed at tonight's event \<gasp><shock>. I'm currently in the process of downloading the press kit with high quality screenshots and trailer videos, but the product looks pretty good considering it's still in an early alpha stage. The cockpits are gorgeously detailed (and functional!) and the external visuals are pretty darn good as well. It's difficult to judge the flight models based on the two demo aircraft (109F2 and the LaGG 3) and the control setup they had at the event (no TrackIR and no rudder pedals!), but "smooth" was used more than once to describe the experience. The team used actual Soviet flight test pilot inputs in development their flight models, and even got a surviving Soviet pilot from the Battle of Stalingrad to give them input and feedback! Pretty cool.

General Producer Albert Zhiltcov passionately discussing the details of his sim and where he envisions going with the product.

The attention to detail and quality goes below the skin textures. The damage model appears to be extremely detailed and deep.

Although the simulation will model complex engine management, and advanced flight model, etc., there will be hooks for folks of lower skill to still be able to enjoy the game.

I won't begrudge folks' right to retain skepticism about the product (I prepurchased CLoD, too!), but the product sure seems to be on track to be a great WWII sim.

The official IL2 Sturmovik website is currently down for maintenance, but expect to see a pre-purchase page up with access to the closed beta this fall and additional flyable aircraft as pre-purchase bonuses. In the meantime, here's the official press release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IL-2 STURMOVIK: BATTLE OF STALINGRAD
AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER
Become a Founder and Let Everyone Know

MOSCOW, Russia — July 26, 2013 — 1C Game Studios, a leader in air combat simulations, is thrilled to announce the pre-order for IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad. This brand new title is the continuation of the legendary IL-2 Sturmovik series that has set the standard for combat flight games for more than 10 years. This new entry into the series will offer virtual pilots an even more accurate simulation of the legendary air battles of World War II. A new higher level of physics modeling, damage modeling and aerodynamics has been achieved which allows for far greater realism than in any other title.

"Flight-simulation games are a product of the love and dedication of their development team, often it takes a lot more of both than people realize," said Jason Williams, executive producer of 1C Game Studios. "There is always more that can be done from new planes to better ground details. We want to be able to add that extra care while also allowing our closest fans to become part of the beta team this summer, simply by placing a pre-order. Our fans get to help us craft the game they truly want and it allows us to reward people by beginning work sooner on additional features. In the end, giving back when people show their faith in us just seems like the right thing to do."

Here’s the breakdown of the pre-order bonuses:

Program Details:
Pricing: The Standard Edition will have an MSRP of $49.99 and the Premium Edition will have an MSRP of $89.99.
Early Access: Buyers of the Standard Edition will get early access in winter 2013 prior to public release. Buyers of Premium Edition will get the early access in autumn 2013.
Founder’s Tag: Buyers of the Standard Edition will get a Silver IL-2 Sturmovik logo placed under their avatar in the community forum. Buyers of the Premium Edition will get a Gold IL-2 Sturmovik logo placed under their avatar on the forum.
Aircraft at Launch: Buyers of the Standard and Premium Editions will get the same base set of 6 aircraft (LaGG-3 s.29, Bf-109F-4, IL-2 AM38 (model 1942, single-seat), Ju-87 D-3, Pe-2 s.87/s.110
and He-111 H-6) with the possibility to earn 2 more aircrafts in the game (Yak-1 and Bf-109G-2).
Special Aircraft Set: Buyers of the Premium Edition will also get access to a couple more special aircraft (La-5 and Fw-190 A3) which cannot be obtained in the game, but can be purchased in our store after launch.
Special Label: Buyers of the Premium Edition will get a special label inside the game interface next to their nickname which will stand out from the other players in multiplayer mode. You can turn it off or on as you wish.

Send a Gift to a Friend: We have also built a system to send gifts. Virtual pilots can activate one copy (digital key) on their account and send the others to friends, family or squadron mates. The gift system will be available with the opening of the early access period in autumn 2013 to buyers of all versions.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad features:
1. Brand new single-player campaign mode for combat flight-sims: server supported campaign generator where all missions are historical, dynamic and unique.
2. Unprecedented level of details in physics, damage model and aerodynamics of the virtual aircrafts.
3. True-to-life and complex AI system.
4. The largest and most detailed recreation of the air war in Stalingrad (unique structures/buildings, you can only find recreated here).
5. Legendary combat aircraft thoroughly re-created using the original drawings and blueprints.
6. Historically correct reconstruction of all key operations of the Stalingrad battle.
7. Quick fights and large-scale battles in single-player and multiplayer with dedicated servers.
8. In-game achievement system, allowing players to unlock new airplane modifications/upgrades based on player’s mission results.
9. Global player statistics.

Please visit http://www.il2sturmovik.com to pre-order and learn much more about the game, join the community and feel free to ask the developers any questions about the game.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is scheduled for spring 2014 release.
