Hi All

I can't get the 2.5 patch to install.
Here's what I did.

Fresh install of Flanker 2.0 from the cd. (I haven't played for a while, so there was no prior install on my computer).

Tried to run the 2.5 update exe, ...it started to install but a bit of the way in, I got a message about an "invalid pathfile" and the installation shut down. It's not the path file of the original game itself, because like I said, it started installing ok.

Anyway, I promply ran the exe again and this time it continued on its merry way, got past the point it halted on the first go and continued for a bit longer. At about 60% or so, the same "invalid pathfile" message and halt.

I ran the exe again and so on. Eventually, the patch installed.

I then tried to install the training missions upgrade. This time it started to install and after a while I got a message saying something like the old file it's looking for isn't there, but it found one that has the same filename but its not the right one, so the installation halted.

I tried running the exe again as I did with the 2.5 patch, but this time it kept halting at the same point.

I thought maybe the files had corrupted when I downloaded them, so I uninstalled everything and started again with fresh downlaods from a different site.

BTW, I did a full uninstall of the game (delete left over folders manually, and delete left over registry entry manually)

This time I got the "Invalid path file" message again with the patch and then later the "Older file" message as well with the 2.5 patch. I didn't even get as far as the training mission upgrade.

I have tried this countless times and I get the same results. The funny thing is that each time I uninstall and try reinstalling the game and then the patches, the failures occur at different points of the installation - that is - I get the errors at different files each time I try.

I've done a search here and at flanker2.com and saw that people with the French or German versions had this trouble and could fix it by replacing certain files with the English/US versions of those files. I am in Australia and therefore am not using the FRA/GER versions. I tried those solutions anyway, but it still didn't work.

I've downloaded the patch files from different websites so I don't think it corrupted downloads.

I didn't run the game itself between installation of v2.0 and v2.5. I thought maybe my cd is corrupted so I reinstalled the game again and tried it without the patch...it worked OK.

Any ideas?...thanks in advance.

Cheers

well, if your installs are fresh, and files downloaded from different sites, maybe you have a problem with your windows ro something like that? (just guessing)

Normally there's no reason not to install. french and german versions need to be patched, but the patches are normally intended to rename (not even replace) the files, so it shoudn't make any difference to a english/US version

Thanks for the reply.

It turned out to be my cd-rom. Not working properly and I guess it was not copying the cd files over properly.

Anyway, new cd rom - game with patches installed fine.

Cheers

Hmmmmm...sounds familiar to me. First time I got the sim to work with the v2.5 and 2.51 patches, I thought I had no sound too.

I went into the sound configuration part of the game itself and had to turn the volume tabs all the way up to maximimum to get any sound. I have sound now, albeit not very loud unless I also turn my speakers' volume up too.

It might be a driver issue. I'm using windows xp (home) and a sblive value. I haven't installed the new drivers from creative yet because it seemed windows xp had detected my sblive card and installed it's own version of drivers for the card.

I get sound ok in everything else (but i've only just started using windows xp so i haven't re-installed all of my games yet.

If you're using a similar setup to me, perhaps try the official windows xp drivers from creative?

Let me know how you go and I might get off my butt and try them myself :-)

If you don't have windows xp/sblive sound card...I don't have any other ideas - sorry.

Good luck

Cheers

er, I never remember that adress. Go to http://www.checksix-fr.com and post in their forum, they'll tell you where to get german patch for flanker (if they don't have it already on theirs one )

It's a french site, but you should find what you need

It helped but the cockpit stilll looks a little bit bigger than usual and is not centralized on the screen, it's a little to the left....
