It's going live in about 10 minutes, at the whole hour.

It's in celebration of the new website, and to announce new goodies and new info.

(https://robertsspaceindustries.com/) Better use the twitch one: http://us.twitch.tv/roberts_space_ind_ch_1# (Not sure about the "us" in front of .twitch.tv)

Stream is a bit intermittent for me and I can't get through the migration yet.

[EDIT] It's best if people go to twitch.tv to watch the stream and not use the RSI website for that.

Yea, I still have not migrated my account.

New Avenger ship is a bounty hunter ship for 60 bucks. Probably similar to the 300i in performance.

I still cant figure out a way to assign my kickstarter credits to buy the limited ships. If they dont allow that then I am going to be pissed.

One thing I really wish I had done was not used KS for this. The KS integration has been a nightmare.

You want/need to migrate, to claim your online alias.

If you can't log in, you might consider "account recovery".

I had to do account recovery too, then spent a while trying to come up with a login that was named different than my handle... add in all the issues I had when trying to buy my starter package and I'm starting to think I may be just to dumb to be a Star Citizen hehe

Thought that I was getting the 300i for some reason, just realized it is the Aurora.

It will probably suit my playstyle for a while anyway.

New site looks really good.

If people could keep posting updates from the livestream I would appreciate it!

Cheers!

They just showed the modelling and animations on the 300i. Landing gear, gull-wing doors, ladder/docking ring, and finally seat and panels.

Before that, they talked about the planet Tiber. In between UEE and Vanduul territory. Vets call it the grinder, reminiscent of WWI trenches. Vanduul are harvesting the planet for resources. (Wonder what that looks like, industrial machines spewing smog into the atmosphere)

Here is the making of 300i

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVJIzAvMPQ4&feature=player_embedded

I picked up an Avenger. It looks cooler than the 300i IMHO and there is a layout that allows a crew of two (trainer version) which could be cool IMHO.

Probably because it is a violation of trust. They probably gave them to someone who stopped by their office who signed a NDA and then the next day they are up on the net. I can see how that would upset me. But everyone community has DBags so he has to know some will do stuff like that.

It does look pretty cool but I dont see how it can hold 5-8 fighters like they said it would.

12 Million stretch goal: professional sound studio
13 Million stretch goal: Destroyers with command stations

Oculus Rift support was part of the 11 Million goal, so that's in.

A little oopsie from someone gives us the info that Brian Fargo will be joining for a conference call later. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Fargo

[EDIT]Just before that, the hourly update was MoCap:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa1gyzNfy9k

The site is apparently seeing about 2000 migrations per hour.

They put on sell 150 Idris corvette and they sold out on 10 minutes..... unbeleivable! wacky

I understand some limited ships for balancing, but i'm pretty sure some buyers bought more than one just to sell them later at a higher prices affecting honest buyers. frown.

So that explains the 200.000$ jump at 04 and 05 in the graph, if you set it to hours. How much did they cost and how many slots were there? [EDIT] Wow! $1250 eek

Rats...

They're all out of Corvettes.

Anybody interested in a SimHQ group buy for the next capital ship? smile

I suggested that for the first corvette sale a while back. Would be a lot of money though and they all go to quick. (the first corvette sale sold out in about 3 hours and this second sale sold out in under 10 minutes. They had to release more just so more people had the opportunity to buy them.)

I kind of wish they would not have sold them at all. They are capital ships (all be it small ones) and I dont think there should be LTI on any capital ships but I am more than willing to save up in game and get a SimHQ capital ship pool going smile

Plus, I already have way too much money into this game.

I bought most of the big ships so I can donate them to my corporation/squad or whatever they call it.

I own:

Retaliator (Crew of 6) (heavy bomber anti-capital ship)
Caterpillar (Crew of 5) (Boarding / piracy)
Constellation (Crew of 4) (Space Superiority)
Starfarer (Crew of 2) (tanker)
Avenger (Crew of 1-2) (Interdiction)
2 Auroras (Crew of 1) (Explorer / fighter)

The Avenger will probably be my main ship but I wanted to pick up some nice ships that can be multicrewed.

Looking forward to this game a whole lot!

I bit on the 350R package.

I know it's a little odd, but the thing that's most attractive to me is the single player Squadron 42 game. It's difficult to have any organized gameplay for me these days.

Damn you all! I had to jump on the bandwagon and ended up getting the $65 Bounty Hunter package with the 300i, just like it more than the Aurora. I may upgrade to the 325i but this was it for now.

So, what does buying these ships get you? Can you fly them in the Alpha now? Look at them in the hanger now? Can you do anything with them now?

My biggest issue is spending money on "air". AFAIK, and somebody please point out where I'm wrong because I'd REALLY like to buy into the development, what you are paying for is essentially "nothing" right now. You can spend hundreds of dollars on ships that don't even really exist with the hope the game makes it and you like the ships design.

Any thoughts/comments? Like I said, I'd really like to buy in, but I want something tangible for my money....not the thought of spaceships in the future..."maybe".

Packages have Alpha and Beta access, but you'd need to check which.

You can't do anything with them now.

Alpha is the hangar, in which you can walk around and view your ship(s). The hangar will be revealed at the Cologne GamesCom, which is around the 24th of August. The hangar module will come with Oculus Rift support, since that stretch goal was achieved.

Beta is the dogfight stage, but I don't remember if there was a time given.

I wouldn't obsess with alpha/beta definitions. It's a work in progress and it doesn't represent the final quality of the product. That's all it needs to say when you start the modules.

Hanger Module in August
Dogfight module in December
S42 and MMO in December 2014

And yes you are buying air at the moment but this game has enough money that it will happen no matter what. I look at it as preordering a game and getting some goodies.

At this point though you have less than a day to buy in if you want any of the goodies else I would just wait till release in 2014/15. Although anyone with LTI can buy you a package and gift it to you and you will get into the alpha/beta as long as there are slots left 58k last I checked.

The other thing that got me to buy another ship ( 325 Fighter to augment my constellation ) is the idea of lifetime insurance for it. I really got fed up with having to keep buying insurance for my ships in Eve.

I would be up for contributing to a SimHQ corp ship, but couldn't commit to a large amount ( my wife would kill me if she knew how much I'd already spent on a "Game". biggrin )

So, can someone explain to me (since I am lazy to read it), what expires today?

I have the $35 starter that got me the Aurora. It looks like I could cash that in (reclaim), and use the credit and pay difference on another ship (300i or other).

Just debating dropping a bit more cash, and was wondering on some clarification on what is not available to do after today.

Cheers!

EDIT: actually read a bit.

It looks like I can reclaim my package, and buy either the Arbiter or Pathfinder package getting a 300i variant for either (these are the only packages I would be interested in buying).

Question though, would I be able to not do anything now, but still buy a 325 or 315 later as a standalone ship ($75 or $80) with lifetime insurance?

Just wondering if I want to keep the Aurora when I want to do trading, and then the 325 for bounty hunting or combat. Does anyone know the cargo space difference in the Aurora over the 300 series?

Cheers!

Awesome, thanks!

So, the Aurora has less cargo space than the 300i (8 vs. 5).

I wonder if I should 'cash in' my aurora for the 300 and then look at getting a more dedicated trading ship later on?

Thoughts?

Cheers!

The LTI thing that expires today only affects NEW purchases. Anyone who already has a copy will still be able to buy the starter packages (aurora, 300i, hornet, freelancer and constellation).

The limited ships will also go away today. Starfarer, catipillar, m50 the two military bombers... some others...

But anyone who bought early will still be able to buy LTI ships and packages and gift them to people. So its not the LAST time you will be able to get LTI just the last time you can officially get it through RSI.

Only a fraction to 14 million, people are amazing!

Which means we'll get:
4th city on Earth
ability to save while in space, not just when docked
a documentary "Making of Star Citizen"

While everybody will love the hibernation mode, i bet there will be another heated discussion when they reveal the 4th city.

My top three are Rio de Janeiro, Sydney and Frankfurt. CIG should definitely have a poll on this one.

While I agree those cities would look great, with a nod to Firefly (the curses), the look of Blade Runner and the economic importance of the country and region, Hong Kong/Shenzhen (grown into one) would be one to consider too.

We are at 14 millions now.

I agree with CTR69, i would like either Rio de Janeiro or Sidney added as a fourth city. Hong Kong is cool, but Rio or Sidney are more appealing IMO.

15 MILLIONS NEW STRETCH GOALS

- Additional flyable ship class: escort carrier
- The Upgrade Handbook: an extra 42-page manual that walks players through the process of customizing and overclocking their ship systems! (PDF free to all backers before $15 million)

First one is very interesting for guilds or squadrons. Also give us more big targets to blow-up. biggrin

16 MILLIONS JUST ANNOUNCED NEW STRETCH GOALS

- Arena mode: an area for players to test one another’s skills without risking valuable items or hard-earned ships and experience. Place bets on competitions across the galaxy.
- A laser pistol for every pledger before this point. Keep your ship safe from boarders with a pistol by your side.

To be honest none of them seems appealing to me, but its still good to have something for motivation.

I think the arena mode is a great idea. It should cut down on some griefing since those who just want to dogfight can now do so without picking random fights and they wont have a fear of losing their gear.

I`m a little late to the party, so is there a reason why I should buy a package now? Will they get more expensive after release?

Point is, my gaming time is limited and while I was a big fan of the WC series back then, I`m still undecided if I like all the aspects of SC. Especially loosing ships from your hangar. About a year ago I lost my X3 campaign just when things were getting a little more interesting due to a HDD crash, I abandoned the game until last moth `cause I was too frustrated to start all over again. So my fear is having my 46 y/o ass blown out of space from some trigger happy teens within minutes. My style of game would most probably be trading in a Freelancer or exploring in a 315p.

Second, I liked Elite a lot too and it seems both games might come out in the same time-frame.

So why should I buy now, when the LTI stuff is being over??

It works like this. The early backers during the initial campaign were given a bunch of goodies along with Life Time Insurance (LTI) on whatever ship they bought. That LTI was supposed to end with the initial campaign but they extended it out so more people could buy into the game. Then they decided once the game gets to xx million dollars they would give LTI to all backs who had already bought the game.

Well they finally ended the LTI (for now) but it will probably come back again down the line.

Without LTI when you buy in you still get access to the alpha and beta stuff but you will only get 6 months worth of Insurance on your starter ship. After that six months is up you will have to hire on as a crew or take a loan in order to buy a new ship if you die or start a new game.

Also there is a price hike.

The basic starter package for early backers still costs 30 bucks where it costs more now for new backers. As the deadline closes for beta (dec this year) the price will slowly increase and once they run out of beta copies they will probably stop selling packages all together and then you will have to wait for the game to release.

That is not to say you cant still get LTI at the early backer prices. You just need to get someone with early backer status to gift you the pledge. So you send them xx paypal money and they buy it and gift it to your email address and you then have a LTI package. (obviously you must trust this person)

So if I spend $140 for the Digital Colonel package I currently get 6 months of insurance for my Anvil Aerospace Hornet. If my ship gets destroyed after the 6 months, it's just.....gone? The ship ALONE is $110!!! That's $110 of REAL money....and that's before a price hike. The automatic LTI ended the 6th of this month so it's no longer available. It would appear, with the disappearance of LTI, there's really no reason to spend more than the absolute bare amount to get Alpha/Beta access.

What's the deal? There has to be some way of purchasing LTI for a reasonable amount of money.

I honeslty don't see how they can make this game work at these prices. The Anvil Aerospace Hornet alone costs more than Steel Beasts Pro PE. Let's say the Hornet, for instance, stays the same price and the game is released in 2015 for $49.99. That would put the game at $160 USD for 1 ship.

Am I confused or is this the most expensive game in the history of the known universe? lol jawdrop

It is the most expensive game ever... pretty much... except for the fact that all my RoF planes cost more than what I put into this game... and all my FSX addons cost more... and... smile

As for LTI, yes it has expired. But anyone with an original backer status can still buy it at the original price and gift it to you and you would have LTI. SO just find someone, send them the money via paypal and then have them buy it and gift it to you.

How much is the LTI if you go that route?

Thanks for the help!

Apparently, it has changed.

Here's the lastest from their site:

$125.00 with 6 month insurance, unless I'm looking at the wrong place. frown

Ark,

I went to that link, looks like it is for a 'new backer'.

I am seeing the Lifetime insurance on my purchase options for original backer.

I am actually thinking of 'reclaiming' my Scout LTI package with the Aurora and getting either the Arbiter or Pathfinder package. Just have to decide if I want the 315 or 325.... decisions, decisions...

Yea ark that is only for NEW backers though. They have a tier system going.

Read this:
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/12986-Lifetime-Insurance-Clarification

So anyone who backed the game earlier can still buy LTI at the original price. Anyone buying into the game now has to either buy limited insurance at a higher price or find someone to buy it for them and gift it to them. This still wont open up your ability to buy new LTI packages but the package gifted to you will have LTI.

Also FYI they have confirmed that down the road they will have "sales" where they sell limited numbers of LTI packages. So even if you just want to wait you can still pick it up down the road (probably at a higher cost though)

Yes and NOH.

LTI is more a little convenience that any real holy grail people make of it.
The only good thing about LTI is that the ships you have with LTI insurance you will not have to bother to buy insurance inside the game with game credits. THAT IS ALL!.
A ship without LTI, you will have to buy the insurance inside the game with game credits every six months. Unleast that you do not want to do it, and choose for saving a few game-bucks to take the risk and fly without having insurance of your ship, but that is only a choice. You will have the oportunity to insurance every and any ship inside the game, using game credits.
As motter of fact, you are able to buy insurance for your ship, your weapons (there is not LTI for weapons), your cargo, and other things.
Resuming, if you buy any package now, as NEW backer, you will get the same that everybody else but with insurance for six months for the ships, once those six months had pass you will have to buy new insurance with game credits.

Another thing, any ship bought inside the game with game credits does not have LTI, even if you are an "Original" backer.

I bought the Freelancer packade and added a 300i addon ship. Those are the only two ships i will have with LTI. Any other ship i will buy them inside the game, using game credits, if i make enough money, of course.

You muster on as a hand on another ship, I think. But I doubt insurance will cost much with in game credits, not like you have to pay with real money.

Ingame insurance only saves you your CURRENT ship/config/upgrades/equipment right?
If you dont have insurance and it is destroyed, you can still use the ship, but youll only have it in default setup.

Isnt this how insurance will work? If its the other way, that makes the ship disappear entirely and you have to pay real money for it again, then its just #%&*$# disgusting...

I am under the impression that the ship insurance can be bought with in game cash. The in game cash will either be what you have earned while playing/trading or for those more inclined with real world cash.

While non LTI will be a hassle, it shouldn't cost you real money.

Now personally I think any ship purchased with real world cash should have LTI. The only reason I purchased the Aurora, beyond crowd funding was because of the LTI.

There are 4 types of insurance. LTI, Hull Insurance, Ship Insurance and Cargo Insurance.

LTI is life time insurance and can only be bought by crowdfunding the game before it is released. This insurance will go away all together come November this year. Up until then you can still get it by having someone gift you from their LTI account. This insurance is lifetime insurance for the standard hull insurance. Meaning if your ship gets blown up they will replace it with the basic version but your upgrades and cargo are gone for good.

Hull Insurance is similar to LTI in that they also replace your Hull but not your upgrades or cargo.

Ship Insurance will replace your upgrades but not your Hull or Cargo.

Cargo Insurance will replace your cargo but not your Hull or Upgrades.

All the insurance with the exception of the LTI will be bought in game with your in game currency and are supposed to be fairly cheap.

The real benefit of the LTI is that it gives you the ship for free. So if you buy one of the big ships you wont have to save up for a month in game before you get your hands on it as you will start with it.

Ah okay so we wont have to pay REAL MONEY to get access to the ships ingame (as in iRacing).

Then its all good, and im happy to see there will be severe consequenses for not managing your account and economics.

This is my issue..I buy a game where I can fly a spaceship..yet if I die\it gets blown up once I lose it unless I pay extra so I can have it back...

I think any ship you get with the full game when you buy it should be yours for life no matter what..not just a KS backer perk..total rip off this aspect.

Insurance is a rip off in real life..who on earth thought it would be clever to put it into a game...

I would imagine you'd still have your ship but not the customizations and cargo. Surely they aren't that stupid.

If your ship blows up and you dont have insurance or you are in a sector that your insurance wont cover then your ship is gone.

That is how eve is, that is how the x series is... that is how just about every game in that genera is.

For ships you pay actual money for to fund the game 2 years before it's even launched? That's what we're (or I'm) talking about. If the LI cuts off but they continue selling ships.
That would be great to pay them, wait 2 years, get your ship and get raped and blown up on the first day before you even know what you're doing.

Well every ship sold gets at least 4-12 months of free insurance so you wont loose it on day one but after a few months you might loose it if you dont pay for insurance.

Also even though LTI is gone you can still get it by having someone with a veteran / original backer account convert what you buy and gift it back to you.

For instance if you buy the 300i 65 dollar package you can gift it to a friend. He breaks it down and rebuys it on his account with LTI and gifts it back to you.

I've already contributed for a ship. Just saying anything someone pays actual money for should be secure for life. Especially if they pay it 2 years before they can even touch the game.

I prefer my 300i, or the look of the Hornet.
The avenger to me looks more like a futuristic aircraft or shuttle than an space ship. smile

Hell, even LTI isn't forever. They plan to upgrade the ships every 3 years or so, and the LTI is NOT transferable to the newer model. Either way, I don't really care. The insurance in-game is not going to be expensive, and so long as you aren't the worst newb ever, you won't be losing your ship too often. The only reason I've spent as much as I have on LTI ships is I want to have those ships available as soon as I get the game, not months down the road after grinding the money. LTI is just gravy. I've bought the 325A, the Hornet and a Freelancer so far, and depending on my lack of impulse control, I might get something else.

Yea they do plan to update ships as they go but even with that I dont think those ships will change much as the LTI will always remain and replace your old ship with another old ship.

So you wont loose LTI and the ship you get wont be that much different (worse) than the new line.

So a couple of questions,

First, is this a online/offline sim? The Sq 42 seems to be offline but is the rest of it online only?

Second, With the hangar mod coming next week, that is just a module that you can walk around and view your ship nothing else correct?

Third the trading/economy part of the sim is a ways off if I read correct?

Fourth, Whats the best "level" to buy into the game?

This looks very very interesting, With that said I played EVE for about 4 years but got sick of the online aspect, Mainly the fear of being destroyed. When I pay for a game/sim I would like to enjoy it not be afraid.

1) All of it is online / offline. You can fly sq42 by yourself or with friends. Same with the MMO. YOu can play it by yourself offline, or online or host your own modded version of it.

2) That is correct. It is a way to view your purchases and walk around and interact with it. But as it progresses the hangar module will expand and add more ships, more things to do (customize your ship etc) and then finally multiplayer where you can invite people to view your ships.

3) The Economy wont appear until the end of next year when they launch the MMO beta. None of the other modules that will be released need the economy to function.

4) To be honest the best level is the lowest level. You get a starter ship (with LTI if you get someone to buy it for you.) and then you also get the sq42 game, the mmo game, everything between and access to all the betas. The rest of the ships are expensive and probably not all that great a deal unless you just have money to throw around.

Then if you want to explore trade you should get the Constellation or freelancer followed by 300i (in that order)

If you want to dogfight you should get the hornet, 300i constellation or aurora (in that order)

The cutlass is actually probably the best bang for your buck ship out there. It is highly customizable (supposedly) and pretty cheap (compared to some of the other ships lol)

Thanks master.

As far as ships go, Will they always cost real money or will they eventually be able to be purchased with in game money?

They have said its very much going to be anything in game can and will be bought with in game funds. They have used the chance to purchase ships with real money as a way to boost funding only.

Chris Roberts has said quite clearly that he will never do a game that allows those that can afford to buy ships with real money( or anything else )an advantage over those that choose to obtain things in game.

Cool thanks ratchatcher. That would have been a huge concern. Its a good way to make money for the sim though.

Might be purchasing this.

The main benefit to buying ships before launch is the early access to those ships in the hangar module and dogfight module. Once the game launches they will be able to be bought (except the scyth ship) and the insurance should be affordable enough not to be inconvenient.

I've got to say, having just watched the live event recording, I am very impressed with how this is shaping up. I love the fidelity that they are showing, and if this is the standard their setting for just the hanger, the main game bodes well.

Looks very immersive! ( cant wait till Thursday! )

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
Was at the event at the Alter Wartsaal in Köln last night.
What a blast and what a team CIG are very open and friendly they all took time to chat with everybody. There was more than 1000 excited fans packed in the old waiting rooms at Köln train station, when Chris and his team came out we gave them a very loud and warm reception, the whole crew was quite stunned at the reaction we gave them. Speaking later with Rob Irving he was saying that normally he is hidden away and not used to this kind of limelight and he kept muttering about how awesome the fans were.

The reveal of the Hangar module started out with a bit of a falter with Chris inviting a single ship owner to come up and log in to see his ship in his hangar and the lad could not get the system to take his password, they were using a physical German keyboard and it was mapped to a US layout in windows and the lad could not get the special characters needed.

Then Chris Roberts tried to log in and failed too, he got the user name wrong. After that all went well and the Hangar module was well received by the crowd, the revision of the module was 20 minutes old and they all had their fingers crossed that it would not crash and it didn't. There are a few bugs in this current revision, none seem to be game stoppers tho.

Later after the talk we got to try out the different hangars and even to log in on Chris' machine to check out our own hangars.

Recording of the event can be found here http://www.twitch.tv/roberts_space_ind_ch_1/c/2809927
