I am having a real frame rate problem with 2.5. It seems that texture memory is not releasing as a mission progress and eventually the mission grinds down to 1 fps. To clear it I hit ALT Q and then cancel to return to the game. Has anyone else seen this. I have a p666 with tnt2 and 32 megs. 128 megs on the system. Who can I talk to about this. Thanks.

My fps has taken a good hit as well, but no answers on how to make them better. I have actually switched back to 2.03a for my 25-33 fps. Bummer, I really liked the new explosion effects! Oh and that flyable MIG-29k too. Ho-Hummm

I can confirm that. I have 933mhz, Geforce2 (using latest drivers) setup and although the framerate is more than acceptable it has taken a big hit.

BTW is any1 having problems selecting outside views (F2,F3,F4) in some of the missions in the 2.5 mission folder?

..and flashing screens in the mission builder?

Does this slowdown also occur in single flight, or only with many objects in the scenery? I'm asking this because I have tested only single flight. I have a Voodoo2-card and a PII350. It runs smooth as silk!

This is contrary to my own experience and that of many posters. Please be sure you're comparing apples to apples in regards to mission complexity, using DX8 would be a good bet, and make sure you're using up-to-date drivers. I'm simply not seeing any decrease in fps from 2.03a to 2.5.

Sorry to report, a BIG frame hit..
and it seems to be slowing down, then speeding up, slowing down, spee..well, you get it.
If I did a scan around while paused, a la EECH, it seemed to help a little bit with the texture loading, but not enough to make it a good flight..
I couldn't get outside views in the Mig.

I used to get what i can only describe as texture creeping, after running certain games for a while it used to go into jerko mode, constantly accessing hard disk but seemingly not able to keep up with the graphics. I cured this by opening system.ini file in Windows directory.Look for [vcache] in list and put after it minfilecache=0 then underneath that put maxfilecache=32768 (thats for comp with 128 meg of ram, apparently its best to have maxfilecache no more than quarter of your ram. Then save file and reboot ,this cured problem on my comp.Aparently windows on some systems keeps hogging memory until it seems to cause probs with certain setups.2 games i had probs with this were Motocross Madness 2 and Ultima 9.Maybe this will work with your Flanker 2 problem,it sounds similar

Minimal to no changes here on 2 machines P3 1Gig V5500 and P3500E @667 TNT2 Vanilla. I don't use the new windows interface as that seemed to Tank the V5500's FPS and no FSAA as well.

well i don't really get a framerate hit, but it seems prone to refuse any input soon after beginning of a moderately complex mission. also, when building those, the editor tends to ctd on me
my system is a non-overclocked PIII@700Mhz, 256Mb, Voodoo5 5500

I too have difficulty accessing exterior views in some of the 2.5 missions with the mig 29 with F2, etc.... Also have the problem with a flashing screen at the map interface. The map diassappears as soon as i move the mouse leaving the pale blue screen although the aircraft tracks remain. Once the mouse is left alone the map re-appears. Guess what - Geforce 2 ultra with the latest offical drivers. (with PIII 700, 256 MB ram, nothing overclocked) Frame rate seems OK but I've only been in missions with, I guess, reletively few objects. Planning my own missions is a bit difficult if you can't see the map. Incidently, other than that the basic upgrade is terrific.

merlinuk1:

I think not being able to access exterior views in some of the 2.5 missions is becourse the mission creator disable those external views in order to make them more realistic or provide some surprice elements.
To enable external views go to mission editor>customisze>skill, and uncheck DISABLE EXTERNAL VIEW.

If you are a GeForce owner and you have the issue with the flashing screen, go into your control panel (start -> settings -> control panel) and click on Game Control (or Game Options for the DX 8+ crowd). Go to the controller ID tab and go to the bottom where there is the "poll with interrupts" check box. Click on it to change it the current option and restart your machine. That should fix the problem. This was a fix that was posted for Falcon 4.0 and it should work in this case also.

I get the "lagging" landscape too, additionally the general framerate has decreased, although it remains constant. Some other thing that worries me, is that an option PCI-textures is present in the options menue, although I use a Ge-Force2MX! I'm not sure if this was the case in 2.0 (I correctly downloaded the non-voodoo-version of 2.5 form http://www.escaudron111.com and uninstalled 2.0 before upgrading).

My system:
T-Bird 900MHz
128Mb @ 133MHz
Ge-Force2MX 32Mb
Asus A7V
IBM 30Gb, 7200rpm, U/DMA 100
Soundblaster Live 1024
Windows Me

Should run ok on it, shouldn't it?

With 2.03 I was getting 15-20 fps. With 2.5 I can get around 15 fps if i'm out over water and there's not any land visible, but when any land does become visible the frame rates drop down to 3 fps.

Right now I have all settings the lowest they can go and there's no increase in fps.

2.Sim goes slideshow when I lock on to target in air to ground instant action, but smooth as silk in air to air mode.
