Buy a shiny nEw mech and theN dOnt drop for Friday night smack down.

As far as the head goes dOnt forget that there is 18 pts of internal also. So 13 arm would give you 31 head protection. Survive one dual guass hit.

I would love to have dropped with you guys, but I had some stuff to do after I posted that shot. You wouldn't have wanted me anyway... I only did 123 damage my first round.... sigh

Here is what I settled on after a few games:

AS7-D-DC

I swapped out the SRM6's for 4's and upgraded to ERLLAS to give myself a little more punch in the current long distance meta-game. K/D Ratio is at 2.0, but I expect that to climb. Damage/match is going up too.

One of the biggest challenges has been figuring out how to play with such a slow mech coupled with usually being a high priority target. I have to think carefully about where I want to go and when. Once I find myself in a bad spot, it's rare that I'll be able to get out of it.

I don't think I'd put my ammo in with the engine. If someone gets a lucky shot with an ammo explosion, you're dead. Might consider swapping with ECM.

Good call.

edit - Although tomorrow's patch is supposed to add ECM hardpoints.

...So we'll have to see if we can only put it in certain places instead of being able to put it anywhere. Kind of a bummer, but maybe all the BJ's tomorrow will make up for it... biggrin

What do you guys think of this?

AS7-D-DC

I would probably use the AC5's to close distance with enemies and then get all up in they faces! I want to get some feedback before I drop mega-bucks on a 325 engine.

Change your AC/20 ammo to AC/5.

Also, you have enough free slots for endosteel. Try tweaking your loadout to use those extra tons without adding slots

To be honest, I don't think you'll like it. I get using 2 ac5's instead of an ac10 due to the increased fire rate, but I don't know if it really has enough punch. 2 MPL's isn't a lot for an assault. Think BIG when you build one of these. I'd probably go gauss and 2 LL with endo and DHS. Just my 2¢.
You've still got ammo on your engine ready to blow it up when a machine gun gets a lucky shot. wink

Hmmm... OK. Took your advice and used a previous build you posted as a starting point.

AS7-D-DC

Good heat. Good punch. Better speed. Just had to lose some leg armor and a little arm armor.

After having experienced this slow-@$$ Atlas, I can see how an Awesome might appeal to me more. But I always hear how un-Awesome they are...

I really want to pick up an awesome but in MWO it is 'the broadside of a barn' with legs.

True, and always a target. But that's why you have over 100 pts of armor on your front center torso alone. wink

I started thinking about getting an Awesome, so I read through a couple of the Awesome guides on MWO, and people did talk a lot about minimizing CT exposure being key to success. I already deal with that in my Dragons so I think I'll pass for now. Going to see how happy I can get with my Atlas, then decide if I want more Atlai, or a medium or maybe an Orion when it comes out.

I had about 20mil as well but spent 12mil on 2 seismic sensors. Now I'm saving up again for this -

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking I'm more of a heavy person myself (mech chassis, not body weight... I'm just big-boned...). I've been thinking about saving up for the Orion next.

So here's the build I finally settled on after lots fiddle-farting around and some miserable rounds this weekend.

AS7-D-DC

The LRMs allow to me to contribute while I lumber over to wherever the battle is, and also allow me to put out some damage without exposing myself to pop tarters. The AC20 and LLAS do the bulk of the work.

It would be nice if they broke down you damage by weapon after the match. That way I could see how much I'm really doing with those LRM5's... Actually, since this is the first mech that I've used LRM5's on since stats were available I can check right now...

Hmmm... 8 matches, 1400 fired, 270 hit, 205 damage... frown

Oh well. I'm still losing almost every match I play in my Atlas, but my overall damage per round in that chassis is going up...

I kind of like packing a couple of LRM5's too. Just a little something to get you into the fight earlier when you're the slow guy, and they don't weigh much.
If you want big damage, you've got to bring the big racks. Considering how often they don't hit anything, how often only a few hit the target due to dodging or partial cover (or partially blocked shots), and that each missile does little damage on their own, I'd say you're doing pretty well for only 1400 fired. Some people fire that many in a single round. LOL

Yeah, it's funny how the LRM's aren't doing a ton of dammage, but I've been so much more successful using LRM's (was using 10's for a while too) instead of SRM's.

Maybe without SRM's, I'm less tempted to close before I should and I keep my distance better/longer and I wind up getting more damage with my other weapons. I also like to think that there is some un-quantifiable benefit that comes from enemy mechs being forced behind cover a little more often by my LRM salvos. With 3 LRM5's, I can chain fire continuously with just about 1.5 seconds between shots.

LRMs are great for suppression and for scaring light mechs off cap points

If you look at it purely on a "damage per ton" basis, they aren't worth it at all.
