Hi All
I am new here so greetings to all.

I made my rudder pedals on woodworking CNC from compact 10mm material and plywood.
It's a first design and many things should be better, but they work sturdy for 1 year now.

I published those so maybe someone can get some design ideas. I am going to redesign baloo style pedals to be made from this material, hall sensors, cam centering, so wish me luck :-)

What's wrong with this pedals :
1. Centering. I made a few spring positions so it's nice but spring are loud becouse how they act ttogether. CAM mechanisam and one spring is a way to go.

2. Electronic and pots. While i salvaged Logitech attack 3 joystick for this I also used it's throttle pot becouse of bigger reading angle. My mechanisam is fully adjustable to various reading angles and don't have deadzone so it's good by itself, just need a nicer pot and circuit board. I actualy made it possible to use 75 degree pot angle...if you have a good pot.

3. Sliding - I used dowetail tool to make it happen so pedals stay in place and slide. Problem is that this is not a low friction material so it's no good. So I sand the bottom of pedal and sides to give it more tolerance and retrofitted for wheels on each pedal. It's still not perfect so beware of this design. Also a problem is that it require some maintence - cleaning, while some other design's don't.

4. Brakes - I used 100 N pneumatic shock absorber for furniture becouse it's good and cheap for this purpose. The bad is that it's too long so I had to fit it on angle that is almoust paralel to the foot rest. It's bad becouse when mounted this way it's using very short stroke - 2cm to apply full brakes. Solution : find a shorter shock absorber to use longer stroke, maybe 120 N would be fine or 5 cm stroke on 100 N. Also solution is same lenght but cca 220 N pneumatic shock absorber.
I never fitter pot for brakes since I'm going to make new pedals anyway

Remark on material : it's very strong and can take a beating for years. Also there are no signs of wear on moving parts yet so I like the material for this purpose.

Hope you enyoj it
regards
Milan

If anyone wonder why is there some big hole in cenral rotating arm. Well, I designed pedals so the potentiometer can be mounted in that hole too. While doing that I get linear movement, and mounting pot outside like I did I get more sinusoidal pot movement on the extreme. It means more pot rotation on the small movements around the center and less pot rotation when you go toward full rudder movement. It gives me nicer control and quicker response.

All of that is nonsense if I make hall effect work directly :-)

Well done.

Your center and sliding system resemble ones used in CH PRO pedal.

Looking forward for you Baloo Pedal redesign. smile

Yep CH system copy like I use. Works great and very simple. KISS is best! smile

Glad you like it. KISS is what I like. Best designs are always simple or made to look simple.

Not much attention to detail there, let's call it : prototype1 - design abandoned :-)
