JonnyD - do you mean that all of the glide wrappers literally don't work or just that they are being used by the game but cause crashes?

Are you sure you have 3DFX enabled in the display driver update configuration?

I'm not saying they don't work - they clearly do for some people. I just have not had any luck getting them to work for the 3Dfx programs I have:

These include:

MechWarrior 2
F-16 Win95
LB2
EF2000
Pod

Tried them on Win7 H64
Vista HP64
XP Pro

It's no biggie - tried it and had no joy, so I left it. As I'd already been trying to get my 3Dfx cards working, without success, for a couple of weeks I wasn't really prepared to spend too much more time on it than the two days I did.

The games start and I get the menus, options etc - but as soon as they try to go into 3D mode they crash or revert to the menu screen.

I say it as I see it

What game is F16 wIN95? Is that iF16? or F16 Combat Pilot? F16 Aggressor? i had success with the last one in nglide on a xp virtual machine, and also with iF16 in terms of it working with some mode, but not 3dfx i believe.

with LB2 can you get it to work in software mode? just to work out here what is going on

Hi Joe13:

I would if I knew how to get a screenshot form LB2 and if this site didn't keeps loging me out every time I browse a different topic.

It's DI's F-16 for Win95

LB2 won't work on any of my current rigs except Win98SE one. It used to work on my XP machine until I changed the hardware.

Seem to remember there was a particular trick to getting the Voodoo PCI card working in Win98, but it is so long ago now I can't remember and the chap who told me about it back then has since moved away (or been locked up for tax evasion! biggrin ) so I'm stuck with trying glide emulators.

At the moment I don't really have time to keep testing these as I've moved on to other things that require much head-scratching and consideration.

I will probably return to it at some stage, but as I have a working Win98 PC and LB2 is okay on that, it's highly likely that will be what I'll use.

My main concern with dgvoodoo and nglide was trying to get MW2 3Dfx edition working.

As DI's F-16 installs and tries to play on Win7 64, I'm probably most likely to have success with that using dgvoodoo, if anything.

I just checked and see that dgVoodoo v2.12 has been released, plus Dege says that he has bought an ATI graphics card... so perhaps we can see ATI support from now on?

www.dege.freeweb.hu

EDIT: I've just tested the latest version... it still crashes LB2 for me. frown

Question...if nGlide works why is dgVoodoo being pursued? Is it just to have another Glide option?

I have an nVidia GTX295 using WinXP. LB2 runs (using WAC) in software mode and I have not yet taken the leap to Glide but that is my goal. I haven't tried D3D yet either. I'm proceeding with caution here. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do next? I would like to help contribute if I can.

Thanks

dgVoodoo was like the first glide wrapper to ever fully support LB2, out of many tested. It was an absolute god-send when it was discovered. I guess we are still pursuing it, in a way, to support the creator of it and yes, to provide an alternative.

There's really nothing to be afraid of when making the leap to a glide wrapper. It can only crash your game at worst. Direct3D isn't really used nowadays as it was just an option for the many different graphics cards of years ago. 3DFX is the most widely accepted hardware-accelerated mode for LB2 now.

Go to the link below for a Display Mode Comparison in LB2... to get an idea of how the different modes look:

The guys is busy. Its at 2.14 already.
I'll try this in my LBGoldFX project then.

Update: DGV 2.14 works fine with LB2 here.

Specs: Win 7 x64 , 6GB RAM, GeForce GTX 580, 1680x1050. I see no difference in performance/quality. Biggest difference between DGV2 and 1.50 would be that the new one has far less options to fiddle with (less that can go wrong biggrin )
Also correct aspect ratio can now be achieved (or close to it anyways). I get 5:4 aspect in 1680x1050 and not 4:3 if I choose "centered" and "scaled". DGV 1.5 only stretches the graphics.

Good to see you again, Shadow=ASP=!

You have an NVIDIA graphics card, that's why you're fine! thumbsup
