In other older news, to make themselves look better, the Army and Boeing renamed the AH-64D Block 3 Longbow program to AH-64E Guardian.
Across the Pacific, North Korea is renaming its MiG fighters to "Super American Killers" with the same amount of improvement to their warfighting ability.

In yet other new, the AIM-120C-8 was renamed AIM-120D, and the F-16 Block 60 was renamed F-16E.
At some point things can grow enough in capability to warrant a new major version indication ... this happens in software, too.

The question of when a new model is just a block upgrade and when it's a new version can probably be debated in quite a number of cases. A related discussion (and often not lacking in entertainment-value)is the naming of systems to fit the political needs of the day, e.g. the through-deck cruisers of the RN (known as "carriers" in the rest of the world), or the Tu-26, renamed Tu-22M to prove that it was just an updated version and not a new design (which it was). Unless you can slow down the rotors, that's a practical limit. The rotor blades can't break the sound barrier. Things like tilt rotors or compound helos can go faster by changing the dynamic, but a conventional-layout helo is limited to about 200mph by physics.
