I was getting a little tired of the default smoke and flames, they where a bit on the huge side of things and also where a pretty weird grey colour, so I decided to poke around and see what I could do. A few days later and this is the result:



While I was at it I also touched up the flares and missile trails, but I'm not completely satisfied with it all. Hopefully I'll be able to do some more fiddling about (If anyone has any tips on the CSV files it'd be appreciated)

Yes, just be sure to remove any SMOKE_TRAIL files you may have in graphics\textures\animation otherwise the missile trails may look funny.

Just tested and WOW! your smoke and fire is perfect! a huge improvement over the original and modded smoke. I even seem to get a slight framerate improvement when flying through/near it? very cool.

I've been doing some further work on the explosion effects (And the flares, but I don't think they're quite ready yet. Sparkles!) and this is what I've got done so far:

Rockets (Some of the particles didn't show up for some reason when I recorded):


They look a lot better in-game (especially at more the 10 FPS)

also tried first file.....agree that effects appear way cooler AND myfpsdo not tank as much....i run on an old pentium d.....thanks very much!!

I'm not sure about the way the rocket smoke pops up then drifts. But if you say there's particles missing, the item looks better than the graphic above.

Nice zakin. Remember that some  effects are also in smokes.csv.Check this in smokes :
SMALL_PARTICLE_TRAIL;SMOKE;
MEDIUM_EARTH_PARTICLE_TRAIL
There you can adjust the size of the rocket dust and particles at the start in the middle and at the end,as well transparency.
If you want edit burning fire -4;FIRE;SMOKE in smokes.csv is responsible  for it.



flare:3;DECOY_FLARE_TRAIL
TRAILS;WHITE_TRAIL;EFFECT_SMOKE_LIST_MISSILE_TRAIL;1;1;8.000000;0.050000;3.000000 this is trail (connected with 1;WHITE_TRAIL;SMOKE_TRAIL in smokes.csv)

Current revisions of the cannon and rocket effects, again they look a lot better in-game.




I think I'm gonna try doing the Hellfire explosions next

I haven't actually touched the rotor effects yet (I think) so any problems aren't my fault... yet

Also just to double check, are the "bad things" you're referring to the weird colours? Because that's due to EECH's limited colour palette and can't be fixed without major(?) source code changes.

Thealx cmon release this great rotor :P
Downwash is connected with another dust in smokes.csv.
Probably this is 11;DUST_TRAIL_1; or
12;DUST_TRAIL_2;
if you want to return to the old downwash try to get a change to the standard line 11 12

Downwash too is connected with vehicle cloud dust .

Zackin5, yes it's landscape overcontrast at the background of dust cloud. It's appear after installing your csv, so..

Huh, weird. I was pretty sure I hadn't touched anything related to the rotor wash yet, unless it's using 0;GREY_TRAIL or 1;WHITE_TRAIL. You didn't happen to have any non 1.14 smokes installed beforehand did you?

I guess I'll have to take a closer look once I'm done with some of the explosions.

Uploading videos is unfortunately a bit of a no-go on my internet. Plus FRAPS and EECH really don't like each other, so the videos would be at 8 FPS with half the particles deciding to take the weekend off.

Nope, all smoke and explosions effects are standard.

I just installed this tonight and it looks more realistic.

The flame on a rocket or missile after is launched SHOULD burn out LIKE you have it instead of burning continuously all the way to impact.

I think it's more realistic.

The smoke emanating from a destroyed target is now not so hard on my CPU anymore:

I have 2 GB of RAM, plenty of Processing speed and a 512MB video card;

but sometimes it still lags and turns into slow motion (especially if I am flying over an area with many destroyed targets burning away) BEFORE I installed your Tweaked Smokes.


What's in the box? C'mon, what's in the boooox?

Unfortunately due to allergies I haven't been feeling up to working with this the past few day, but I just updated the OP with a download for what I've done so far. Some of the changes aren't really finished to my liking (Flares, tank explosion debris) but it's there for the people who want it.
