As usual, pack a good PC, expect a learning curve and, of course: FINF (FlightGear is not Flight Simulator).

I doubt that you can make money with Flight Gear.

At least not yet, FG would need to be much more popular.
On the other hand GPL doesn't exclude charging money. Also it's not mandatory for FG addons to use open licenses (itr just prevents those items to be included in default install)
FOSS society shouldn't percieve payware as something bad. It takes lots of work to accurately model complex aircrafts, being able to do it full time definitely help. But that implies charging for your work (I guess donations are a bit unreliable for anyone to make it your main source of income)

There's no barrier to making commercial add-ons to FlghtGear.

Frankly, I'd love to see some of the AccuSim stuff in FG - it'd be a scream.

FG is a refuge from the insane payware "arms race" that MSFS is (and that X-Plane is starting to be). It should be kept that way.

I have uninstalled my previous version of FlightGear, installing version 2.10. However, each time I have attempted to launch the simulator I remained trapped in a "FlightGear Launch Control 1.7.0. How can I escape this trap to return to the flight simulator. I have tried 'Load', 'Save As' and even 'Defaults'. Yet I cannot progress. HELP!

Uninstall Flightgear again, go into "C:\Users\{Your username}\AppData\Roaming\" and delete the "fltk" and "flightgear.org" folders.

Then reinstall FG 2.10, but make sure you don't install it to "C:\Program Files"!

You'll have to set up your FG configuration again, but starting with a fresh config is the best option.

After a few days of uninstalling and then reinstalling, particularly the scenery files, I have now been able to fly a Sopwith Camel over my city in California. Viele Pils.

My error occured during a failed installation of the "terrasync" link. I had read the instructions provided at the site, but failed somehow in their execution. So I reinstalled all the latitude and longitude downloads, unzipping all "n-quantity" of them, into the Scenery folder. In the end it is all very nice in terms of a flight simulator. I thank you for your quick assistance.

So, in less ambiguous terms, you've downloaded the scenery manually instead of using Terrasync to fetch it while flying.


Yeah, that also works.
