Im thinking about getting a HOTAS setup. Maybe the G940 but thats undecided at this point.
Is there a kit available to convert an ordinary office chair to hold the throttle and joystick? Im not interested in a dedicated chair that has no wheels. I need to use my computer for work too, so it needs to work with an ordinary chair. Im open to ideas from those of you who may have made your own contraption too.

Thanks for any advice.

I've been looking for something like this also. I've seen pictures of homemade setups on several websites, but never any pre-made kits for purchase or anything. I was looking at this, but thats a lot of money after I just dropped 300 on a G940.

Interface Dynamics used to make some mounts you could place on just about any office chair with arm rests... Pics of what I've got here:

This is probably the first time I'm grateful to a spammer for thread-necro.

Anybody else got any ideas for this chair-mounted HOTAS? I'd love to design my own HOTAS furniture (to get it off the table) but aside from the lack of money and tools, I'm just renting a room at the moment so even the most-basic "cockpit" would just eat too much space. If I could mount my HOTAS on the chair, that would be awesome!

Well, I have a very similar chair to ArgonV. I took the armrests and the wheel/height-adjust off it. Placing the armrest on some MDF I copied the hole pattern onto it and drilled the holes. Mounted the MDF as sides and then two pieces of MDF on bookshelf thingies... brackets that hold the gear at a good height. I think of it as a work in progress. smile

Belatedly @ Scoobe and monsterZERO, but maybe of wider interest...

I remember seeing this over in the 'show off your pit' thread:

Fold out arm rests for mounting your HOTAS.

For those of us without suitable chairs, I was looking into getting two of these:

While I am doubting if the MOBO would support a Cougar, I am pretty sure the clamp-on pad would not.

Those platforms that ArgonV showed wouldn't be hard to replicate. All of that material is at the Home Depot.

Some plywood (or mdf) or even steel plate could be used and then it's just a gear clamp and some rubber gasket (for grip)

And the mobo just needs some dowel and rubber caps to make support legs for supporting the weight of a Warthog.

For example http://www.canescanada.com/rubber-cane-tips

One tip on each end (4 total) and voila.

Before i got anObutto I cut two pieces of wood in the shape of square paddles, velcroed my CH throttle and stick to either one, and then used a vice clamp to mount the paddle handle under each arm of the chair. Worked pretty well.

Not a very clear photo, but it was taken a long time ago.
I've since updated the computer, but not the chair.
I replaced the arms to fit the throttle and stick.
They're adjustable up and down, to suit.

It was done with a little metal bending and covered with leather.
A couple holes drilled and done.
I still have the old arms if company comes over.

But most times they want to fly and it stays the way it is wink .

Great job! My only complaint with my setup is I want the wheels off so the thing is harder to move around, but can still rotate.
