You all have been the nicest and most patient bunch of people I have seen in an online community in a while. It is REALLY inspiring to see such cooperation among peers! I can't wait to dive in with the rest of the lot! Needless to say, I think I will be sticking around for quite some time biggrin

Omega: Never met anyone as enthusiastic as you when it comes to DCS A10. You did pretty damn well flying the jet with just the keyboard; so you'll be good to go once you get the Warthog HOTAS/Track IR and pedals!

Not necessarily in that order I might add- two nights ago shrek took a time out from gaming to help put which I thought took maximum generosity and today as an example I came in and wheel was giving a great session. Penguin also stepped up and had loads of great info to contribute. Everyone in our servers will accommodate when they can- sometimes they'll be busy on something and as you can see from your experience so far there is a LOT to take in and preparation in every step. There are times people will want to help but may simply be unable to from concentrating on their task- it takes a lot of work to get there and sometimes that needs to take priority.

As mentioned to you tonight- this sim has all the ingredients necessary to maintain your enthusiasm... You will be constantly learning right down to the finest detail- which as an engineer I'm certain you will appreciate. And just when you think you couldn't Learn any more about it... Someone in here can fulfill your curiosity. Just pick your subject.

I DARE you to ask why it is that raising your flaps on landing helps shorten your stop time... Go on! I DARE you. Lol

Mostly kidding but suffice to say I've seen some of the most intelligent gamers in the history of gaming in here and though we may not always agree it definitely keeps a person thinking.

Man look at all the nubies.. GEESH gone for just a day or so ... and the population multiplied... we may have to get some Air Traffic Control in some of these missions... pilot

Looking forward to flying with you guys

I flew for a bit late last night in Ants. There were 15 of us fighting over targets... Man it was great to beat that mission... I don't know how many times I have seen Krymsk, Gelendzhik and Novo over run by those Creepy Crawlly Creatures of Carnage and Calamity. It was GREAT TO WIN... charge

Heck yes, I actually was sad when I realized that you were keeping up with us on a keyboard!

Glad to play with you anytime Omega!

He wussed out on us last night though. Omega claimed that he had only a couple of ours sleep the night before and he'd been up for about 37 hours straight or something... Ran his hog into a taxiway sign and then opted out in our training mission. Ppppshaw. No enthusiasm or commitment at all from this guy!

Kidding of course but beware- omega when your HOTAS shows up your sleeping days are OVER!

Flying any sim with a keyboard must be a nightmare..not sure how anyone can do it. Flying a DCS sim even more so..dear lord even with a stick and throttle and paddle rudder (no fancy set up here) I find it hard enough remembering what key is what!

And? How do you like it so far? Remapped the trim yet?

Crew gave me the idea of mapping the paddle switch forward of the stick as a modifier... I use that in combination with a number of DMS / Mode select button / trim hat commands for landing gear up / down as well as NVG and zoom in and out... It makes the experience much more complete for me.

Hello all,

I am with DCS:A-10 for two years now, but I never had flown in multiplayer.
Since I saw the announcement for the big fly-in on February 23-24th, I grabbed TeamSpeak and went to the servers.
I got say that I flew on other servers, but the SimHQ has the most welcoming crowd. Others are ok, but it seems that I'm invading their "buddy game".
And here, even if the language barrier, it's been very fun and I'm learning a lot. Mainly, how to use the gun and to live without a TGP, since Eno's missions require you to do so...LOL.

And flying WITH and AGAINST human players, is an entirely new experience. Finding targets and handing over them, cooperating with others, having a human JTAC on the ground...it's great. It's also gives you a entirely new dimension when you know there is a smart, thinking, scheming human player waiting the right moment to take a shot at you.

Two moments that I'd like to share: in the "Ants" mission, there was this Australian guy (I can't remember his name) working as a JTAC on the ground, using the Combined Arms game (something that was just a dream two years ago). After taking out the enemies in one area, he called over the "radio" saying that enemies were in such and such area and asked for support. I answered it, went over his position and checked-in. He sparkled the targets, I went for them with guns and boom: enemy is out and I hear "good guns, good guns!" very time I hit a target. Man..it's like I'm living those videos I watch in YouTube about air assets supporting ground troops. That was a great feeling.

The second moment is when there was a human-controlled Ka-50 taking out blue assets. Omega calls out his approximate position on the map and then I go for it, looking for him, with AIM-9 up and ready. Suddenly, I am at 4,000 feet and see that typical shape at 5,000 feet hovering and in a second, the AIM-9 locks it, I call "Fox 2" and let the missile go. The missile gets right over to him and explodes between his two rotors. Ka-50 is going down, Omega is still in pursuit and it is my first air-to air kill in the A-10. Ever. And it was done in multiplayer, against a human enemy. Very satisfying.

Hope to see you more often. I really hope I could get back more often, but ther is this thing called real life tha gets in the way and has to be dealt with. But the good thing with A-10 and DCS in general, is that it will be around for many years to come.

And I'm looking forward to the F-15E. If anyone wants a "wizzo", I'm up for it! (after all, wizzos have for fun!)

Penguin.

Penguin that would have been yours truely on the ground doing the talk on onto those pesky BMD columns. I controlled a few A10's during that mission onto 4-5 different columns. Was good fun marking the targets with the IZLID and talking jets onto them.

The JTAC aspect of Combined Arms can work very well if the mission suits it and the guy on the ground has an appreciation of what the guy in the air can see and what the best approach is into the target area (i.e. what munition to use; what the ground to air threat is).

I've been pretty lucky in real life and have watched live controls of airframes dropping munitions (standing behind the JTAC's). Some images from that below:

Nice shots. Ive never been on when someone acts as JTAC, would be cool though.
