Hi sorry, i know i am probably just being a pain asking these questions about old simulations from the period after dos and before xp, but i got a copy of If-22 and it sounds great especially with its dynamic campaign. I am however unable to get it running in win 7 (obviously blocked with the 16bit installer problem in a 64bit system)but i am also unable to get it running in vmware - my other solution.

Is this game able to run in winxp? has anyoen tried and been successful

thank you

well i was hoping someone might know something on how to get this game going in windows 7 even but perhaps no one is familiar with this one - its kind of similar to TAW and has a dynamic campaign

I have seen it work in win xp, but it wont run in vmware player with win xp for some reason and in win 7 the installation cant proceed due i believe to the outdate installshield prob due to 16bit installer
- is there any way to get around this problem?

Thanks

haha success - it seems that either after doing someupdates in vmwares win xp or when i switched the host to a lower resolution setting, this game now works!

I have however found a problem that i hope someone can shed light on provide help for - for some bizarre reason iF-22 will not load up if i have my joystick plugged in - the game will indicate as being on in the task manager processes list but every will still jsut remain at the desktop and no game application will be visible at all.

i want to use a joystick as the keyboard controls are both sluggish and oversensitive at the same time.

Turns out you need a old 'gameport' style joystick to play that one; at least that's the conclusion I came to (with the help of some folks on the forum) 5 (!) years ago.

don't worry about it, iF-18 was so buggy that it barely ran on the operation system it was intended for, let alone any other!

I tried to get it going, but even on a rig made for old games it would crash constantly. It's a shame, because "on paper" it's a great sim... big manual, dynamic campaigns, clickable cockpit, jane's style user interface, training; there was even a greenie board.

But of course none of that matters if you can't go more than three minutes without a ctd! Really too bad, but my advice to anyone tempted into trying to get it going would be to stay clear.

there's something goofed up with iF16, if22, and if18 on modern systems. I had tried them all with USB joystick and with gameport joystick and they all constantly rolled left in flight - unplayable by any method i could find.

it's a shame, but if you have a hankering for f-22 combat you could always download f-22 TAW 2.0 for free
