True, but it shouldn't have taken the 15 to 20 minutes in all my prior attempts I don't believe. The only thing I can think of in the flights where we sat for 20 minutes was that I just had my engines at idle or 1 -2 % power. This go around I gave full right rudder, and revved engine until my a/c just barely moved, and then backed off until no movement. I monitored temp gauge in all instances, and they rose in each instance. Perhaps the engine at idle didn't hit the required temp and the leader was waiting for my temp to hit the right temp before he would take off. Seems possible since the 15-20 minute wait they would only take off after I did, meaning my temp probably hit the "go" parameter after I took off and they then followed.
At least I got past it and can continue on.

I run the throttle up to at least 50% when I'm warming up the engine. It takes a bit more to break tire friction, something like 75%. (This all in the Alb II/III, only thing I fly at the moment).
If the mission is to escort two-seaters I just have it pre-warmed, they don't wait around for you. Since ground crews generally took care of warming up engines in real life, it is arguably more realistic to leave warm up engines checked all the time.

Pulling back on the stick while running engine for warming up increase pressure on the tail, allowing for higher RPMs and/or throttle settings.
Potentially you can warm up the engine faster, but it's risky if full realism as higher Revs with cold engine... Used carefully COULD help. If using a TM Warthog as I do, mind the arm tendons and ligaments. Force applied constantly could tear them out! :O

I apparently look at this differently-I want to fly and shoot at airplanes, not sit there and let the engine warm up! I don't see where having to sit there and "warm up the engine" does anything to add to the "realism" of the ROF experience. The pilot didn't sit in his crate warming up the engine, the ground crew took care of that-a benefit of being a pilot I guess. Of course it was the pilot who had the potential of meeting a grissly death on every flight so I guess they deserved some perks!!!

To me it added a little tension while the aircraft was warming up, air raid siren howling, and wondering if I could get my crate up before being peppered with bullets while still on the field. During the warm up, I did totally realistic stuff like getting my Doritos ready, beverage set just so, and pushing my cat away from my monitor.

I never realized Tennessee Williams was writing about WWI. That adds a whole new dimension. . .

I'd like a theme for ROF written by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
