I don't see you complaining about them adding more new stuff to FC3 though.

Wow, $50 for an upgrade product on top of having to buy the product for which it is an upgrade to. I'm fine with free market "if you don't want to, don't" but it seems an impractical price point.

I'm still looking for a lot of fixes for the A-10 which have been a long time coming. The extra caret on the ADI fix is sort of my litmus test for if they care to actually remedy things they've broken previously.

FC3 when done will be more than a "upgrade/Port"

teh reason for having to have a lomac installation is because of Ubisoft.

The problem, as ever, is that whenever these announcements are made by ED or TFC or DCS or their reps, instead of thinking "great - more stuff coming my way" I tend to think "I wonder if they will charge us for each extra piece they make?" and "I know that if I do have to pay for this stuff, it ain't gonna be cheap. Will I end up with a 'cut down' version and therefore at a possible disadvantage on a server if I decided the total is too much to pay?" and "will the mods and missions I have or build for FC3 as it is, still work when all this extra content or patch has been added?".

The fact that the statement was about this being a "free update" makes me suspect that the next one won't be and it'll be something along the lines of "you got the last one free - we can't keep providing stuff for nothing" instead of "here's the patch that fixes the bugs or errors and if you want extra content you can have it for the small price of (say...) $5" Even $10 would be reasonable and in line with what other sim developers such as TW charge for a bit of extra stuff.

They could probably get away with doing several extra bits at that rate - but releasing stuff at the prices they do is just making people think they are being taken for a ride - especially when so many issues remain in the products that have been around the longest.

Are we going to end up with a large virtual hangar full of slightly broken aircraft?

Hehe, sold my X52 just now on Ebay so I can get myself a Chrimbo present of FC3 and the ROF Channel map! biggrin

The info on the new stuff being released for FC3 has made the decision easy about buying it.

So basically:

1) You don't get what you want --> whine
2) You get what you want --> whine

Obviously market forces are at play here. But do you also complain at your plumber when he installs a shinier faucet after you ask for it but he dares to ask that you pay for it? wink

It should strike you as no surprise that the philosopher you have quoted multiple times in your sig and other posts was imprisoned frequently for expressing his opinions.

If you're going to speak freely and expect to be taken seriously, do so with SOME dignity and be prepared to accept the concequences with equal sublimity.

I don't see the problem here really, the price is as it has always been, $39,99, isn't it? Buy it now and save yourself a few bucks instead of waiting for the final version. Why wait to pay $49,99?:) I just feel the value of the $39,90 I paid for it just got higher with the new additions coming.

They may need some cash up front to help cover some costs and this is a great way to do it.

Hmmm, started early this morning to get the update during my broadband 'off-peak' period but find not only that it just made a small update, but that it stays at 1.2.2 and won't go to 1.2.3

I also had to dig out my back-up drive to find my serial numbers because I had to reactivate A-10C and BS2 for online play! Why? FC3 needed activating, so that was fair enough.

On top of that, it refused to activate BS2 for some obscure reason.

This is why I personally am not happy with these progs - something always goes belly-up, at my inconvenience.

So instead of having a good gander at what's new, I'm searching the internet to try and find wth has gone wrong this time. Again.

I say it as I see it

If I remember correct the 1.2.3 isn't released yet. The e-mail was premature and it's still a few days away according to ED forums.

I would have to dissagree Nate , as a PAYING customer and not some minion of the game studio
jumping in to defend every bad decision they make I think I have a more open minded opinion

But even you must admit that some of the decisions they made were pretty poor

eg

getting customers(that is those who actually pay for the software) to pay again for an "upgrade"

Releasing a "new" game without any advertising / promotion

NOT allowing an easy method to gift their software to another person

Master server connection , can we all remember the time when the game crashed everytime you logged into it ?
Then the blamed a third party module for the problem .... who exactly picked to use that module ???????

The whole Bait and switch bit with A10C and the Mythical land of unicorns known as "Neveda" , I wonder if that
was even legal , probably need some bottom feeding lawyer to work that out.

I don't want ED to fail nor do I dislike them, it is just that their decisions are a bit poor

If there was no market for sims , these guys would not be doing it , just because the golden age (90's)
of having lots of sim companies producing stuff is over , doesn't mean the ones who are left can act like cowboys

So adding more content to FC3 and eventually charging more for it is a bad idea?

To be honest yes , charging more to pimp it out a little more is bad

It is supposed to be FC3 not FC2 , so it should have higher quality cockpits that look better than something
done years ago in MS paint (FC2)

If they give us full start-up for each aircraft + 6DOF in all cockpits + high quality cockpits , then yeah the extra $10 might be worth it
