I love OFF.

However this is what will decide if I purchase the new version:

If a disc in the drive is required to play: I will not buy.

If a disc in the drive is not required to play: I will buy.

There are many who share my opinion on this. How many is anybody's guess. But this issue will reduce sales.

I do not want to store food by first going to the 7-11 and buying ice blocks for an ice box.
I do not want to mow the lawn with a pair of shears.
I do not want to walk to the TV to change channels.
I do not want to place telephone calls by cranking a crank and speaking to an operator.
I do not want to find and install my disc to play a game.

I'll buy it regardless if it needs a disc or not. A good flight sim is a good flight sim whether or not a disc is required in the drive. Sure I'd rather not have to have a disc in, but I won't let something as trivial as a disc in the drive take away my enjoyment in a hobby I have paid good money to set myself up for.

It's sort of like saying you won't buy a vehicle if you have to put gas in it.

Uuhh, what a threat - I guess the devs must be shivering now!
Is that what modern progress only spawns - lazyness?

goodnight

Well, seriously now: it depends on the CFS3 version you own -
at least the UBISOFT DVD allows you to run the sim without
the DVD in the drive.

I have multiple DVD drives on my PC. I popped the OFF disc in one of the drives several years ago and frankly, just forgot about it. I don't care for having to have a disc in the drive either, but putting it in once, and leaving it there isn't an issue.

if you mean WOFF itself, afaik you'll have both options, by download or by disc. as it is with p3 already, once it's installed, you don't need the disc anymore in the drive.

If WOFF requires and CD to be inserted into a drive to play then, I'd just got to local hardware store and buy a SATA DVD Drive for $15. I'm sure you could also find your local Recycle I.T Centre and enquire about a drive there if money is tight.

I had a CD Drive for CFS3 CD before I brought a UBISOFT DVD version of the game, but I took that out recently, this keeps my Blu ray drive free for movies. anyway I'd rather buy something physical and like to buy all my favorites games on CD/DVD whatever media it is.

Crow I will edit the title of the topic you posted - it is very misleading. I guess you are sort of replying to part of the review posted a while back but it seems so far from your point and will cause confusion.

There is a way around having the CFS3 in a drive. I do it with a virtual drive - easy.

I've never seen someone with such a strong stance about having a disk in the drive..strange.

If WOFF DOES NOT require a disk in the drive, I will not buy it.

There. I have officially offset OPs loss of sale to OBD.

OBD will do what they can do within technical and legal limits. If those limits are not acceptable to everyone, OBD cannot do anything about that. Ultimatum posts such as this change absolutely nothing, except to perhaps demotivate a few very overworked Devs who have consistently shown in the past they will do everything they can to make (W)OFF the best experience possible.

Does WOFF require a PC?

If so, fuhgeddaboudit!!

And to think there was a time when running off the disc was a feature. When I got my first CD-ROM drive, my computer's hard drive was a whopping 50MB.

Mr. Hyde, it speaks for the overall quality of OFF, that the soundtrack alone
was worth the buy! Now let Dr. Milne out again.
