Yeah, that always causes me some head scratching too. Why cant you select the weapon and use the same button for Fire/Release it's not like you'd be firing/releasing simultaneous ordinance. But maybe there's a way to program this into your Joystick profile.

Well, I know that the controls for the F-15C model how it is in real American fighters- the weapons release button on the back of the stick is for missile fire and is required to be pressed for longer than just momentary (to ensure there's not an accidental firing from bumping the button), and the guns have always had a separate trigger, best I can tell. I don't think it would be possible to program in both commands to the trigger on your Warthog, without using a shifted input. Also, if you're using the stock scripts in the TARGET Script or GUI editor, both of those profiles set the secondary stage of the trigger to Null values, so no, it doesn't do anything in that state.

Hope that helps answer your question.

Actually no the issue is why there is two key commands one is cannon the other is fire weapon and the third is strictly for missiles ....weapon release this gives you a redundent command (2)to fire the cannons

Since there are only missiles and cannon why have the fire weapon command

That's probably because of the Russian birds. Trigger in Russian planes= fire weapon. Depending on which weapon is selected, that's either cannon or missiles/ bombs. There's no secondary "pickle" button for missiles or bombs.

That may be a part of it, but I think it's more of a happy side-effect than anything else.
There is a time period during which data is transferred to the missile and the batteries are started etcetera. Not entirely sure about the electrical system in AIM-7 and AIM-120, but if it's anything like f.ex. JDAM it would be a chemical battery. So you press the weapon release button, battery starts, missile is live and being fed data, and when it has everything it needs - off it goes.

Note though, I'm not 100% on this. So someone will probably come over here and shoot me down. biggrin

Cannon command, default "C", does not fire the cannon. It selects and deselects the cannon as active weapon.
You want to have Cannon as your active weapon prior to the moment of firing, since this will let the weapons system to set themselves in cannon mode whereby the radar will track targets on the nose and this information will be used towards accurately placing the gun pipper. When you get your shot, you press your trigger (weapon fire, default "space"), and rounds leave your aircraft.

Then you can, if you so desire, deselect the cannon with "C" key again. Unless you have another one out there that you want to kill.

If the equivalent of C, or "Cannon", would be integrated into the Weapon Fire command, then you wouldn't know where your rounds are going to go until said rounds are already flying, ensuring that you won't hit anything.

The only way to do it reliiably is map one button to cannon and a second button to weapon fire the two stage trigger is dicey
