Just noticed this and figure not everyone reads the remote SHQ Racing forum.

$12
http://store.steampowered.com/app/8790/

Also, Darren on the SHQ MS forum posted that if you bought a retail copy before, you can activate it on Steam for free:

Quote:

http://insider.simbin.com/retail-owners-of-gtr-gtr-2-and-gt-legends/

Hello Friends,

It’s been requested many times, and we’re happy to say that if you own a retail copy of GTR, GTR 2, or GT-Legends you can add digital versions of these games permanently to your Steam game library at no charge.

Times, technology, and operating systems have changed since these games were released, but your passion and dedication to race gaming has kept them alive. It is your love for racing that brought this goodwill gesture forth, and we hope you will continue to enjoy these games for years to come.

We are pleased to extend the life of these classic games which are so intricately tied to SimBin’s history. For GTR 2, however, we are not able to provide all of the content from the retail version in this digital release.

The digital versions of GTR, GTR 2, and GT Legends are available now. To add these games to your Steam game library you’ll need the multiplayer lobby code which was provided with your retail version. Navigate in the Steam menu to: Games > Activate a product on Steam, then follow the prompts until you are asked to enter your *code.

*Please note: You will need to enter your code without the dashes.

Example:

DZC9Z7S-HWPSJNC-3CAXTG8-KGZJ3VC

Will be entered as

DZC9Z7SHWPSJNC3CAXTG8KGZJ3VC

Enjoy!

Activation worked fine for me.

has the insidious copy protection been removed since GTR1? I loved the fidelity of that game, but the hoops you had to jump through to get to play it were daft...

I really used to enjoy that sim (disc based), glad it's available again.

I've never seen any copy protection in GTR2. No hoops at all for me. Been driving it for about 6-7 years.

I think it was GTL that had the difficulty. Even Simbin was offering players a workaround if you just emailed them *any* kind of proof that you bought the game. I still re-bought the GTL download at Simbin (Steam activated) and have not had issues. They've been working on getting GTR2 out to the public again for a long time now.
I need to get back to racing again.

Thanks W_K that's good to hear. I tried to play online with my brother once (disc version of GTR) and it was extremely frustrating. Might give this a go on Steam, the Elise around Donington is one of my top gaming memories.

I know all that, I have the game (with hundreds of mods and tracks), not the Steam version but the original on disk.
I heard that the Steam version had all the Porsches and Ferrari's disabled because of some licence problems.
So, is it true, is the Steam version with or without Porsches and Ferrari's?
Just asking, I'm a curious cat smile

My best regards, Kodiak.

In this topic is explained how you can enable the Porsches and Ferrari's.

Just to let you all know. Because the original game had those cars!
Such a shame and a strange thing to do, considering there are so many copies out with these cars!

My best regards, Kodiak.

Thanks for the HU guys
Got both GTL and GTR2 (with ferraris and Porsches)
BTW if you use the fix for the cars it might be an idea to disable auto updates for GTR2 in Steam.

That make 3 copies of GTL I have now.
Original disc, Steam and Digital download for sending a picture to Simbin.

I don't like the Porsche and Fezzas being gone.

Does GTL on Steam have any original vehicles removed?

I already activated my copies of GTL and GTR2 on Steam a couple of days ago but have just recieved an email from Raceroom.com with the details.

It says that GTR1 is also included in the free offer to disc copy owners.
I have a copy of GTR1 here that I don't intend to activate so if anyone wants it reply in this thread and I'll PM you the reg number.
