TV- The Neighbors - light comedy, couple moves to suburbs only to discover their entire subdivision is populated by aliens. Seems a bit inspired by 3rd Rock, but with more from humans. Actually not bad. 6.5/10

TV- The Inbetweeners - comedy about 4 boys growing up. Uhg. Don't bother...its a shot for shot, word for word remake of the much better Brit original...sort of unsuccessfully "Americanized-Badly". Leave it to MTV to copy a good successful show and fail. Instead watch the British boys do the same material better, more believably, and end with a feature movie. 4/10

Movies - Rock of Ages - the 80's are back....well not really! Yes, this is a super-cheesy MUSICAL...and even inappropriate dancing...Oddly enough, it's not nearly as cringeworthy as I'd expected, was more fun than expected, was funnier and more entertaining. And I HATE musicals! 7/10

TV - Sons Of Anarchy, Season 5 - the trials and tribulations of a fictional motorcycle gang's trek through global organized crime, and the law enforcers looking to take them down. One of the best TV shows in years, with an episode just two weeks ago so stunning that everyone at work was talking about it... 9/10

Made the colossal mistake of watching "Alex Cross".

Ugh.

I watched The Aviator last week and thought it was quite forgettable. Didn't like DeCaprio's portrayal of Hughes all that much either.

Tropo de Elite 2: the Enemy Within
Military police continue their battles against drug gangs in Rio De Janeiro, only to see the enemies they expected lose power to other powers...based closely on the real world events in Rio, this movie and its earlier first movie are great companions to "City of God/City of Men" that are about the gangs and people living in the slums (Favellas).

-great script, great characters, intense, well acted, great shootouts that seem much more "real" than you normally see in movies...I'm talking approaching "Heat" in quality! Look for street battles with 7.62 NATO battle rifles (Imbel made FN FAL's domestically made high quality FAL's), corruption, people under high stress, competing agendas...

-downside is since it's in Portugese (I think it was meant only for Brazilian domestic viewers), it's all subtitles, which I have no problem with...except that in this movie sometimes the dialogue goes fast enough/complex enough that I needed to pause it so I could actually read all the dialogue! Frankly this is a minor quibble I'd put up with EVERY time for movies this good...considering some of the junk Hollywood's shoved in our faces in recent years.

I'm gonna rate this one 9/10, same for the first movie

I got dragged to see this one in the theatre. At least Emily Blunt was nice eye candy.

The Darkest Hour - I quite enjoyed this Sci-Fi Alien invasion film. I also thought it was better than Skyline. It was also interesting to see a film set in Moscow.

Beowulf & Grendel ~ interesting 'layered' film with the understated action and ambivalence of motive mixed with the bard's heroic poem. Not the Hollywood CGI'd version, but the Icelandic/Canadian Film.

The location made Darkest Hour. Certainly open for a sequel.
I really liked the cgi Beowulf, although I think it was mainly a tech demonstration.

A brutal and intelligent thriller starring Sean Bean who is excellent as usual. I enjoyed the film and thought it did well to humanize both the home grown Jihadists and the Security agents.

Watched War Horse last night. It took a little bit for it to finally get moving, but I enjoyed it.

BBC Horizon - How Small is the Universe.

I love when they give size analogies about atomic structure or space so you can kind of grasp the reality. One show had a scientist say that if our solar system was the size of a DVD, the Milky Way would stretch from the Earth to the moon. Cool!

Did not like Tim Roth in that movie whatsoever.
