I did a search but didn't find anyone else with this issue:

I've been away from ROF for a long time and I'm setting up my Warthog controller with it.

When I fire the guns (trigger button), the view zooms in on the crosshair. I have the Warthog set up for spacebar when I press the trigger, and I can't find anything linking spacebar or the trigger button to camera zoom. Is there something I'm missing here?

Thanks in advance

Check in the in game mappings and see what the zoom key is set to.

You have two functions mapped to the same keystroke.

If the Warthog resembles a little with the Thrustmaster Cougar, then - when you push the trigger to the end, Button 04 (IIRC) gets triggered too - anyway the same button who is by default mapped to the zoom function in RoF.

I had the same thing with my Cougar, pressing the trigger would activate the zoom and fire the guns.

You have to go into "controls" and remap. A handy tip is that you see a small white notepad next to a command when two functions are mapped to the same key.

I don't know, it never bothered me much. First, my bursts are very short most of the time, limiting how far the zoom would go, unless I got behind a 2-seater with a dead tail gunner! Second, I always thought of it as myself leaning forward as I fire to fine-tune my aim.
I might try changing that to see how it feels without it, though.

Jedi_Master, that's what I thought...maybe 777 implemented a feature where you would auto-zoom into the crosshair like you were leaning in - though it's a pain because you have to manually zoom back out. I'm sure there have been a ton of changes I haven't kept up with since I've been away. I try to keep my bursts short, too but it's a progressive thing. Each trigger pull gets me a little closer and a little closer.

2Lt_Joch, I noticed the notepad icon but none of the assignments mentioned the spacebar or the joystick trigger. I believe there's a key and the mouse scroll wheel assigned to zoom and that's all. I'll have another look because I am certainly prone to missing stuff but I did check twice. I suppose if I unassign keys one at a time, I'll figure out which is the culprit.

As Luke said, you have two functions assigned to the same keystroke. Very easy to fix.

Oh, since I have TIR I never noticed that it would keep it up. As soon as I release the trigger, it stops and I'm back where I was before I pulled it! smile

Hmm... I have TIR too, but mine doesn't go back. I wasn't able to look again at key assignments last night but I'll report when I do. The first time I looked, I wasn't able to find anything related to the spacebar or the trigger button, but maybe I'm missing something.

OK, I know exactly no one has lost sleep over this but in the interest of completeness, I finally worked out the issue. I was dealing with the camera zoom (+/-) which wasn't mapped to anything, nor was my Warthog sending that command. Turns out there was another function in another menu, something like Pilot Head Movement which was mapped to the trigger button for some reason. After turning that off, I had a great time in the SPAD vs. Fokker quick mission. My New Year's Resolution is to actually buckle down and learn a plane so I can do something besides that one quick mission I've been playing forever smile
