believe it or not ferraris are not that expensive especially if buying used
i was briefly toying with the idea of buying a lamborghini gallardo but decided it would just be a burden to have it while living in the middle of the city as i do now.
you can pick up used ferraris and lamborghinis for as little as 50-80,000$ in good shape, less if they have some kind of pressing issue like a coming maintenance period.
Also, maintenance on the 360 series like above, is far less expensive because the engine no longer has to be removed to service. But I hear they eat tires and rims for breakfast.

And there is the rub. Any sort of maintenance on them is very pricey. A lambo clutch change is an easy $5K-$6K. Several hundred bucks for an oil change. I get my dry sumped Corvette's oil changes at the local quick lube for less than $100.
I hate that car. One just like it caused an hour long backup on the morning drive in Wednesday. Owner was probably didn't know where the gas gauge was.
if you know how to do your own maintenance stuff like clutch changes is easy and cheap work, we're talking around $300 for aftermarket parts, but if you ever have to replace major parts like for example if the transmission is heavily damaged and needs full replacement it's going to cost a lot of cash to get one even from a scrapyard. $3000-$5000
When you see how much care is put into each Ferrari engine, it makes the car seem like a relative bargain. You are getting a very close to hand built product that is still of the highest tech.
If you are fortunate enough to own one, the least you can do is properly maintain it.
That new F12 really looks stunning...almost makes the 458 look "boring", itself a good looking car.

Considering the amount of R&D that goes in to a Ferrari, it's understandable why these are such very expensive cars. A lot of the technology from the F1 cars finds it way to Ferrari road cars. Ferrari is almost unique in that respect.
Two years ago I had the opportunity to drive a Ferrari 458. Really, really awesome experience, highly recommendable. Besides the power when putting your foot down and getting shot to highly illegal speeds, the thing that amazed me most was how easy to drive it was at normal speeds. Really no different than a family sedan.

I consider these things a waste of money unless you live in Germany or close to a racetrack for race weekends. One of the popular expressions back home of "waste" is "it's like buying a Ferrari then getting stuck in traffic" or "it's like buying a Ferrari for city-driving."
As a chick-magnet though, well, that's a different story...
