I had to use the compatibility in order to get the installer to work. I haven't tried the game exe without it on Win98 yet, but I will do once I have it reinstalled. If I knew exactly which files the 0.85F patch replaced, I could just change those back to the 1.23 versions.
My framerates are very good - Fraps showed averages of 50fps at altitudes down to a few hundred feet, though in certain circumstances that were not immediately recognisable as the usual suspects, it did fluctuate sometimes. Mind you, there isn't much in the way of ground detail with just the 1.23 patch in any case so it may well change with the BDG patch, but as it won't run with that yet, I'll have to wait and see.
WinXP compatibilty was no good - it moved the whole display half a screen to the right, so I could only see half the menu screens and was therefore not able to use them.
I have had another quick go with v1.23 in Win98 compatibility. Went okay - graphics are bloody awful! FPS was in the 50s at altitude but once I landed they dropped to 15.
I forgot to check which key controlled the wheelbrakes again - with the inevitable result:
Silly me!
UPDATE: I installed 0.85F again - this gave me TrackIR use - though it's best not to use F12 for centring as it puts you back into the options and then the two to three minute wait for the sim to start off again. It also makes the joystick config look messed up in the options menu, but when I got in the cockpit, all seemed to work okay as I had set it before 0.85F. So I won't put in the 0.85F2 exe as provided here on SimHQ. I have no idea what that is supposed to do. I'll have to go over to the BDG site to try and find out what the extra settings in 0.85F are supposed to do as well. I know it's an old title, but I was expecting a little more from the ground textures, they really are awful - it can be very difficult to recognise anything down there - although I'm stuck on 800x600 res at the moment. It did once offer me higher res, but that disappeared somewhere down the line and I can't get the option back again, or find where to adjust it manually.
I may just stick to flying it on my Win98 PC, which has a 16 year old 14 inch monitor plugged into it.

Hi just got my copy of mig alley in the mail does anyone have the 0.85f patch (not the f2 patch btw) could someone possibly email it to me if anyone has it agsomething3@gmail.com if not then where can i find it as i've searched on google for about half an hour and no luck
Has anyone gotten Mig Alley to run on Windows 10? I have it installed (ran normally with no errors) and can get to all of the menus with no problems but when I try to actually fly, it crashes back to the desktop. I've tried it before and after the 1.23 patch and all of the various compatibility options but they all crash. I also did the registering of the ocx files in case that could be the issue but it still crashes.

Just a shot in the dark here...but when I had my Radeon HD6970 video card, Mig Alley worked fine in the menus but dumped me back to desktop when I tried to enter the 3d world. The only way I was able to fix the problem was by rolling back my drivers to a version a couple of versions earlier.
I don't know if you have an AMD card, but their drivers can be finicky when it comes to running old games. I don't even know how many options you have for older drivers using Windows 10...the OS is so new you might not have this option. It might be worth updating the drivers if there's a new version...or downgrading drivers if there's an older version. It's a longshot and a pain...but you never know.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Force10. I do have a Radeon HD6870 video card. I'll check for updated drivers tonight. Like you, I doubt that there are older Windows 10 drivers available and I really don't want to bork my entire PC with drivers from Windows 7 or 8.
I installed the latest beta version of the display driver but it still doesn't work. I sent a ticket to AMD but I'd be surprised if anything comes of it.
You don't happen to remember which version you had to install to get it to work do you? I haven't found a good way to find old AMD drivers either, for that matter.
These drivers say they are for windows 7 and windows 8 64 bit...who knows, they might work for 10.
I would suggest doing a restore point before you go for it though...if Windows 10 has restore points like previous Windows versions had.
Edit: Just looked at my current Mig Alley shortcut with my Nvidia set up...looks like I have it set for compatibility with "Windows XP service pack 3"
I can't remember why I set it like that but I'm sure I had a reason. I always try my old sims with no compatibility settings first...and many of them work without any settings on the shortcut.

Thanks for all of that. However, that link downloads the latest 32-bit driver now for some reason. I did find the 64-bit 13.1 drivers on another site and got them installed. After a reboot, I gave Mig Alley a whirl. It does better now (doesn't crash back to the desktop) but it doesn't move off of the red/blue plane image that's displayed while it loads the 3D. I can hear the sounds and I get force feedback in the joystick just no 3D display. So, its closer but not quite there yet. I think I read about someone else having a similar problem. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find that post and if they found a fix.

Sorry to hear that didn't work. I think you have identified where the problem is...video drivers. That's half the battle of getting old games to work...figuring out where the problem is.
