Why is it so decided it was "Shilka" this is not a SAM?
Ooo yes... Right now im on thinking and i remember mr.hpasp said shilka canceled because perhaps some idiot terrorrist wants use sam sim as a training tool
It is an easy decision... ... either Shilka, or no new system this year.

I have one qouestion??? Arm missile can knock out shilka ????
Yes, and it detonates approximately 1m above your head, killing the crew instantly (by spraying them with hot Tungsten fragments)...
... on the positive side:
- Your 23mm bullets are flying above Mach3, right from the end of your barrel, no acceleration phase. - Your 23mm bullets are reaching maximum range within 5.5sec. - Your 23mm bullets can kill targets, while your radar are switched off. - You have 2000 bullets, and that is enough for a more than 30s sustained fire (4 tubes parallel). - OFZT bullets are deadly, even one hit can be catastrophic.
Maximum range and altitude of the bullets are ~5km. Effective range is 2,5km, altitude is 2km. (over it the ammo dispersion is getting too big)
Maximum displayed range of the radar is 20km.
23x151B OFZT (inert - training) ammunition, with 1l of Coca Cola, and a matchbox.

What's being so time sensitive like this...Totally not groundbreaking stuff like enough info for new scenarios or systems, or anything to do with stuff like DCS World, I guess.

i dont think so if hpasp decide to introduce new system he always say something before write any thing in here i guess next version included with minor bugs fix & maybe one scenario about sa-5
The next SAM system, to be added into the SAM Simulator "Realistic to the Switch" will be the 9K33M2 Osa-AK (SA-8B).

Any intentions about new missions (including already discussed here) in the next release?
I plan the Baltic Express, and maybe the Vladivostok HABU run. The Black sea Vega firing range against the Tu-143 drone is also on the cards... ... OSA will not be released soon.

Yes, nice article But when I saw a new post in SAMSIM ANNOUNCEMENTS thread I expected release of Osa But on the other side it was suspicious to me there are no new posts in Osa thread
I would like to talk about this idea, it is quite possible you will kill me but I will give a try anyway. Do you think it would be possible to create a SAM system inside Falcon 4 BMS where humans will be able to co-operate with othe human pilots in a multiplayer mission or to fight/paying one against the others ?
Actually, it possible to simulate a GCI on an AWACS system but not a SAM radar operators on the sim. Do you think it would be possible to modify the software code ?

Maybe i'm the pessimist, but i think the DCS World in his state only can worsen the samsim with deadlines, and expectations, and million billion patches.
Thanks Hpash.... and sorry by the OT but I think never that magnificent program quality into DCS: W.... I have pesismist to the future .
Comparing a payware done by a big profit oriented software company, with a lone persons freetime project supported by REAL ex-servicemen is a tall call in my opinion. While I do not rule out any 3rd party product to be linked with SAMSIM, I do this hobby as long as it entertains me. (during the first 3 years of development, it was not uploaded to anywhere at all)

Which systems are you planning to add Karat to first?
Some systems are missing a lot of features needed to make a camera or optical sighting system work.
First will be the Volhov, than the Neva later.
Volhov has two switches that operates the optical tracking. Advanced manual page-3 point-7, and page-5 point-27.

How this complex flight path produced? Is it normal behavior ?
Yes, it is normal half-lead guidance against a heavily maneuvering target.

I actually written it during Friday afternoon, to check some claims about these arrays.
If you switch off 1~2 transmitter (more than 10% of the total), the beam steering will still work.
It is a nice experiment to switch off all, and allow just 2 (furthest apart) emitter to work, and the beam steering is still nicely visible...

I think the same way as usual, but due to very narrow beams of modern systems, they are hard to be detected by someone else than a targeted plane (also acts as a partial HARM immunity).
Modulation and other RF properties are the same.
--------edit You just move the beam like you would move the whole antenna (or feeder) in a "classical" non-phased system.
Last edited by Alien_MasterMynd; 07/15/1507:40 PM.
PESA and AESA radars are basically narrow pencil beamed impulse-doppler radars with monopulse receiver, where the beam steering is done by digital phase modulation instead of mechanical antenna movement.
Impulse-doppler monopulse radars (emitting narrow pencil beams) are not an easy targets for jamming. (remember, monopulse receiver is getting more precise target direction in case if its jammed)
If it is a SAM fire control radar, its preferred to jam its acquisition radar before lock, or if its locked on than just throw a HARM towards it, and release the ALE-50 towed decoy.
Beaming, or VGPO ECM technique could be tried, but the latter one would require deep knowledge of the targeted radar system to be successful.

By the way, I would add a seeker of ASM-135 ASAT. It is also an IR device with four curved and four straight strip detectors. It's optics is also of a folded design (probably Cassegrain too) and the whole device rotated along longitudinal axis and thus no moving parts were needed.
It was heavily considered, but left out due size restriction. (do not like too big files) ASAT used similar sensor that "Crossed Linear Array Tracker" described in page 54.

As far as I have no credible information, on what jamming method was used in what historical situation, so far I elected to implement Advanced Jamming Methods at the Ashuluk firing range only.
Any alternative proposals?

These photos are made at the manual trackers indicator. (see the double horizontal line) At the Dvina, FCO has no possibility to magnify his screen to 5km as with the Volhov, so there you could see only compressed image.

True.... For SA-2 must be in that way....
Edit: Here some photo at the end, but again it is only QRC-160 and Noise Jamming from EB-66:

I thought that the QRC-160-8 & AN/ALQ-87 ECM pods which I believe had modulated jamming capability were in use by the time of Linebacker II. Linebacker II and the Operation Allied Force scenarios is where I thought we might see some more advanced ECM techniques in use.
Also I am still looking for info on modulated jamming from heavy bombers but I would think that the ECM systems of the B-52 and EB-66, like the AN/ALT-6B, AN/ALT-16, AN/ALT-22, and AN/ALT-28 would be a lot more capable than the self protection pods carried by the fighters of the Vietnam War era.

I would like ti know If u add some new jam methods in planes We must use tt mode against targets? Or we will se another option to do it ? Ps: is it possible to do more realistic texture and details on karat during missile flight,?
Different jamming methods, different techniques to fight against it in different SAM systems. SAMSIM is realistic to the switch (not to Karat).

In book on the Soviet SAM tactics in Vietnam, they describe the following methods to counter these deception techniques by S-75 operators:
RANRAP: Early self-protection jammers needed a 4 second delay to tune-in in the signal PRF. This could be exploited in two ways: 1) cycle 75km/150km switch: false targets jump in range, while true target remains on the same range mark. 2) turn ant/ekv off/on: true target dissapears, while false targets remain. 3) IIRC, S-75 also had a variable PRF ("Peremennaja Chastotota") mode, which could make false targets drift in range and that would be noticed by operators. 4) If everything else fails: an experienced operator can distinguish true/false targets by their form, intensity and any present artifacts (target marks of sharper squared shapes and different thickness); true target becomes brighter than false targets on approach, or will fade faster on receding than the false imitations).
ANGLE JAMMING: 1) for early generation Dvina and Volkhov, there was no technical method to counter angle jamming, except to use manual guidance. The closer is the target, the smaller is the tracking error due to the better return vs noise ration. My guess would be ~15km is a burn-through range, approaching/receding target with P=0 were angle jammer completely loses any effectiveness (warning: I did no calculations though)... 2) Volkhov had LORO mode, which made it much less susceptible to angle jamming because the scan rate information was no longer available: without giving the attacker scan frequency ant main beam time on target, the angle tracking error is reduced. 3) In later generation S-75 Volkhov and S-125 Neva, the GshV and GshN modes were introduced. It provided the filtering of angle jamming and sidelobe blanking, reducing angle errors further or negating it completely at much longer ranges. Unfortunately, GSh modes were implemented in a very cheap way, and they were NOT compatible with SDC against low flying targets or targets in chaff clouds... Only S-25 Berkut defending Moscow had a fully capable and more expensive GSh system.
RANGE-GATE PULL OFF: 1) Early gen. systems: manual tracking in range. 2) In GshV and GshN modes, S-75 and S-125 had a built-in capability to track on leading edge only in range (I've seen this mentioned a couple of times in GShN and GShV design and field test bulletins).
Some further interesting info about USN F-4 deception jammers and their capabilities that were available 60's and early 70's The Phantom Phacts: EW with more detailed descriptions of AN/ALQ-51,-51A,-100 and AN/ALQ-126 pods.
Early AN/ALQ-131 jammers used VHSIC - Very High Speed Integrated Circuits, basically a digital processor with 1MHz frequency (cutting edge technology during the 70's)... ... our adversary will have much better ones, so the techniques mentioned above, will simply not work.
3) IIRC, S-75 also had a variable PRF ("Peremennaja Chastotota") mode, which could make false targets drift in range and that would be noticed by operators.
Peremennaja Chastotota is actually modelled in SAMSIM, but it would not help against RANRAP, for similar reasons, mentioned above...
ANGLE JAMMING: 3) In later generation S-75 Volkhov and S-125 Neva, the GshV and GshN modes were introduced. It provided the filtering of angle jamming and sidelobe blanking, reducing angle errors further or negating it completely at much longer ranges. Unfortunately, GSh modes were implemented in a very cheap way, and they were NOT compatible with SDC against low flying targets or targets in chaff clouds...
Hmmm... ... SDC works by amplitude subtraction of consecutive reflections, while the GShV is based on the logarithmic subtraction of the signal received by two antenna systems. I cannot see, how could this task be done in an expensive way, thus GShV + SDC could work in parallel.
RANGE-GATE PULL OFF: 2) In GshV and GshN modes, S-75 and S-125 had a built-in capability to track on leading edge only in range (I've seen this mentioned a couple of times in GShN and GShV design and field test bulletins).
False target is introduced a before the real target, before it is pulled off...

"Operation Anadyr" was the code name used by the Soviet Union in 1962 deploying an army group to Cuba to prevent an invasion of the island by the United States. The plan deployed approximately 60,000 personnel in support of the main missile force, which consisted of three R-12 medium-range (2000km) missile regiments and two R-14 intermediate-range (3700km) missile regiments; each regiment equipped with eight launchers and 12 nuclear (Megaton) armed missiles. Two regiments (561st and 584th) of 150km ranged FKR-1 cruise missiles equipped with 16 launchers and 80 fourteen kiloton warheads — one to attack the American base at Guantanamo with the second positioned near Havana to destroy any units attempting landings. 32nd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment equipped with 40 MiG-21s, from the Kubinka air base operated from Santa Clara. Six Il-28 medium ranged (2000km) bombers with a total of six 407H nuclear bombs at San Julian. Four motorized rifle regiments, each with its own tank battalion, supported by three Luna short-range ballistic missile battalions equipped with a total of twelve 3N14 nuclear warheads. A brigade of twelve missile boats. Two SAM divisions (12th, and 27th) consisting three regiments each (four systems per regiment), with a total of 24 S-75 complexes.
By early August 1962, CIA analysts had noted a substantial increase in Soviet arms deliveries to Cuba during the preceding weeks. The first U-2 overflight in August, mission 3086 on the 5th, flew too soon to detect the Soviet construction program just getting under way at various sites in Cuba. Second mission 3088 was postponed until 29 August, due bad weather. This mission’s photography provided the first hard evidence of the nature of the Soviet buildup in Cuba. Two days after this mission, the CIA reported to the President that there were at least eight surface-to-air missile (SA-2) sites in the western half of Cuba. Bad weather continued to rule out missions until 26 September, when mission 3093 covered eastern Cuba and found three additional SAM sites. Three days later mission 3095 flew over the Isle of Pines and Bay of Pigs area, finding one more SAM site and a coastal-defense cruise missile site. In early October two peripheral missions—3098 along the southeastern coast on 5 October and 3100 along the northern coast on 7 October discovered an additional five SAM sites. This brought the total to 19, but there was still no evidence of surface-to-surface missiles. By Sunday, 14 October 1962, the weather over Cuba had cleared, and the first SAC overflight mission 3101 of the island took place. When the U-2 returned, its film was rushed to the National Photographic Interpretation Center. By the evening of 15 October, photo interpreters had found evidence of the presence of MRBMs in the San Cristobal area. On 27 October, mission 3128 one of the U-2Cs lent by the Agency to the Air Force was shot down over Eastern Cuba, killing the pilot. Maj. Rudolph Anderson causing the height of the missile crisis.

Hey dear hpasp , as u remember I'm the badass Persian samsim lover from 2009 till now I was the oldest your fan and I'm still ..... It's up to you to take a decision about samsim future But remember ,,, you didn't simulate the sa6 I can't believe samsim has been finished ,,, cause I can't stop thinking about How KUB works So ,,, put the last bullet in your samsim revolver and take aim on me .
