Curious - would you buy an extended warranty for a new GTX 680 video card? The card comes with a 3 year warranty, and two upgrade choices are available (from EVGA) -

Warranty?
Only one choice allowed

5 years seems like a nice number, by then I will usually upgrade.

but i also usually buy the cards that come with a lifetime warranty when registering it.

Never. For all the money I've saved by not buying these ridiculous things, I've saved the cost of many tv's, washers, dryers, frig....and have never regretted it. Stores love selling you intangible, expensive items that don't take up warehouse space. wink

I only register and never extend the warranty unless it's free.

3 year warranty is plenty for me, most electronics that have problems will show that early on, and by 3 years if the video card has problems a replacement is due anyhow, but $25 for 2 extra years is actually a pretty good price if you don,t upgrade as often as I do.

Get a card that has a good warranty already and don't waste your money on these ripoff extended warranties. That card will be so obsolete in three years anyway.

Voted no extra warranty. smile Besides the regular warranty, in the Netherlands we have the bit in the law that covers "functionality over a reasonable period" (loosly translated)

A bunch a years ago I saw a comment that stuck - "video card technology is eclipsed faster than Molly Ringwald's career" biggrin

Yeah, ten years warranty on a video card?! Nawww Five? Thinking back, I have not kept a computer for five years.

This. Only extended warranties I every buy are for power-trains in motor vehicles. (usually the math works out pretty well there)

5 years from now, a replacement VC for that will basically cost $25-$75 anyway, and as others have said you'll be looking for an excuse to upgrade anyway. Plus, that new card will have a new warranty, use less power, make less noise, and work with the latest drivers.

My response when a pushy salesman tries to add-on the warranty is simply: "So your telling me you expect this to break in X years?"

shoot, i wasnt expecting my last system to survive 7 years of intense summer heat + gaming... but it did... and it's still kicking...

I cant bring myself to permanently dismantle it and sell it off. it is by far the longest lasting "core" system, as I have upgraded the HDDs and stuff a lil, but the CASE CPU, RAM, MOBO, GPU, SOUND and PSU are all original parts. I think I am happy with my decision to keep it as a backup system.
