from the Fokker E.III wingwarper to the Fokker D.VII F or the Siemens-Schuckert D.III.

But the second photo shows that all the advancements went for naught

Well, it's a bit naive to think about those wars like that, Uncle Al.
The real winners are always the industries. And they carried on, until a second war was over.
And they still were the winners. That's how the story goes.

I'm just amazed at how sharp and clear the photographs are. I didn't realize they were capable of such crisp, clear images back then. Also, I find it interesting to see the wings of a number of Allied aircraft in the junk piles too. I imagine the Germans must have scoured the wrecks of Allied aircraft that were shot down over their lines for signs of improvements and changes in the planes just to see what they were up against and if they could benefit from anything they found.

I think if the archduke ever realized how much blood would be lost. Dueling Pistols would've been vastly prefered. And anytime somebody gets shot, it's usually payback for somebody playing hide the salami with somebody else's wife. Not that we'll ever know of course
