NOPE.
All looked great, at least I was able to download all the win updates.
Then upon restart, it failed to shut down.
I had to shut it off manually after about a half hour looking at the 'shutting down' screen.
I lost the updates, now it says 'Failure to configure Win updates, reverting changes.'

Seem I still can't update windows.

Might have to reinstall everything.

Tried it again, downloaded all the updates...almost 200mbs
Installed them fine.
Then upon reboot, it freezes on 'Shutting Down....'.

I think I'm going for a complete "re-install".



At least I know my system is functioning good.
No BSOD.
All cores activated.
RAM is fine.
MOBO is good.

Just the install of Windows....

how long did you wait on "Shutting down"? after Windows Update installs updates in windows, when it reboots, it compiles and installs the updates that require windows to be logged off to install, then when it reboots and loads up windows it installs a few more. I remember I sat at the Shutdown Screen for nearly 2 hours, then it changed to "Configuring updates x of xxx...................."


A complete reinstall maybe what needs to be done, too many incomplete/corrupted updates prolly occured as a result of the BSODs.



Boot Disk, Choose Advanced, Pick the Drive that you already have windows installed on, press I think its L to "delete" the old install and continue with a new install.

Ooops...you were right, I didn't wait long enough.
I tried downloading the updates again....said everything was fine, and had to reboot, shut down....and seemed to freeze, HD light not blinking, nothing....but I had to go to the john....came back and it was still "shutting down" screen, so I shut it off again, manually, and booted up and it installed the updates!

It appears all is well.

I'm making some small adjustments....restore disk...boot disk....fine tuning.

Thinking about getting real wild...maybe installing the flight sim that I bought this box for.

So, to someone who doesn't want to read through the 15 pages of tension...I'll sum it up.

Put it together, had several BSOD, SkateZilla discovered, after several tests, much patience, and some changes in the BIOS, that it was the CPU, 2 or 3 cores were not functioning. Advised I trash it.
So I RMAed the CPU.
Installed a new one.
System worked fine after that.
But, the Win7 OS was corrupted by all the BSOD's.
I couldn't install any windows updates.
So I 'upgraded' the Win7 OS, and after much 'tutoring', fine tuned the OS.

Now works great.

First post with the new system.
Looks like...well, it's HD, 3D, I get lost in the desktop photo.
Well worth it, to me. I owe you big time Skate.
