I'm just not in the habit of kicking someone when they're down, you never know what they can achieve with a little help. Considering the years of priceless entertainment I enjoyed with the original series, its not a huge sacrifice for me pump them up while others are trying to drag them down. I see more potential in the new IL-2 series for what I would like to see in a WW2 aircombat sim that any other I've seen on the market. The developers haven't given up, the beancounters haven't given up, and I see no reason I should give up.

I doubt that it will be as immersive for me as a finished new IL-2 series, but the new series may never be finished.

I am testing WT too and I agree with you. As it stands now, if CoD is finished and becomes the sim it was supposed to and WT stays as it is, then agreed CoD will be the better sim. However, WT is not finished either and it runs way better and looks pretty good already. Who's to say they won't work on the things you don't like before they release. Time will tell.

One things for sure, I can see already that WT will not be the software disaster that CoD was on release.

Yes, WT will be in a much more finished state when released. Whether they support it or not is another question. I was very disappointed with the support for WOP, after the release. There were some minor patches, but they never released the FMB, or addressed the main problem with WOP, which was was the size of the maps. You could say that WT is the support for WOP, much like IL-2's addons improved all editions before it. At first glance WT looks good, but I'm not sure yet if WT has addressed the main issues, but like you say time will tell. It would be great to have two decent WW2 sims feeding off the competition with each other.

It looks to me that we will have two decent sims....a sim with great potential, but is pretty dysfunctional and a sim that has less potential, but works great. Neither great.

Who's paying you to come back all the time and moan Trooper? smile

Yep, no patch. Not good at all, plus many other things to play and get on with. Shame really..

The reason I keep coming back is obvious.. I am still interested in the game, otherwise I'd have sacked it long ago.
Just because I don't blow smoke up the arse of a game that has been in serious trouble from the day of it's release, doesn't mean I don't want it to be fixed, and I've said that many times in the past.
I'll dish out negative comments as befits the occasion, and god knows this game has deserved it's share.
at the same time, when things go right I'll come on and give my impressions on the plus side as well.. (as per the last patch).
I still want that feeling that the old IL2 gave me day after day I fired it up, and I loved that game to death.. as soon as CLoD gives me that feeling back I'll be the first to cry to the heavens they have finaly nailed it!...

You joked that Chivas was being paid, so it seemed fair to ask you the same for what you provide here. Not so funny? smile

Honestly, I wouldn't expect news or a patch anytime soon, this latest version is stable enough, now the devs need to catch their breaths, and start researching FM/DM and all the gameplay issues. Finally they have a stable, if not quite as pretty version.

Agreed. So this should be an official Steam patch and then they should move on to the next one. Not keep adding to this beta patch ad nauseum.

I believe the plan was and still is release a performance/stability official steam patch, and then move on to beta patches that concentrate on FM/DM/AI issues. It would be the most logical move as there must be quite a contingent of players who don't install the betas. I'm certain they wouldn't want these people to continue having performance issues while they worked on the FM etc.
