This is genius. Love it. Arrrghghgh.....his partner now works in industry meaning one of the car makers and patents are pending. I hope they don't sell the patents to a U.S. care maker, they'll either sit on it or screw it up like the Chevy Volt. We're so close to finally having affordable hybrid tech that doesn't need a governemnt subsidy to make it work. I would love to retrofit my Honda Fit for say $3-5K and get 70-80mph in the city. I don't think the price of gas is going to come down much in the next few years regardless of who is the president or in congress. Innovations like this is what we need to help ween us off foreign oil and keep us moving. If this technology can be made available to other companies then we can have some competition in the marketplace to drive down the cost. I hope a cottage industry spouts up to satisfy this desire to retrofit older cars for better MPH. BTW is demand for fuel is lowered so will the cost of it and that would lower the cost of everything we consume.

$5000/pop for replacement battery is gonna be killer unless they offer trade in on the old battery.

Is anybody doing trade-ins on old batteries?

I've wondered where that money might come from, given the costs of recycling them were not insignificant, IIRC.

Battery pack price and the time it takes to recharge the batteries are still an obstacle. When these two issues are overcome, electric cars will become main stream.

Years ago I read a paper on the intertubes with a near identical idea...I wonder if it's the same guy, or someone inspired by that paper? Sounded like a good idea at the time, sounds good today.

I do wonder if it'll meet expectations though, and if it does, then freaking awesome! Especially if the price/performance stays around that mark.

Big thing is the power storage, as it's always been, improving the electrical storage is key to making electric cars truly mainstream, even without needing "hybrids".
