I should have picked up one of those two-seater planes during the recent sale, I can't dogfight worth crap but maybe I could become a train bomber...

Holey bazooka, the devil is in the details.

Wish the updates were not forced upon users though. Makes the game unavailable until our internet demi gods have been appeased. Now where is that dog of ours. smile

This is the only real criticism I have with rof. I havent played the sim in over a year because I just cannot spend days downloading the updates that it forces me to download before I cannow open the sim frown

Unless i'm being a complete numpty and you can manually update meaning I can download updates at work and memory stick them home for installation? which would be ideally for me atm.

Great screenshots, I feel like I'm missing out each time someone posts stunning ROF shots

Don't worry, there will be another RoF sale soon. The DFW and the RE.8 seem to be the most heavily used online.

Cheers,

They usually have the update available as a torrent link. Look in the patch notes of the rise of flight forums.

Even if I wouldn´t like the way updates or addons are distributed (wich I actually have no problems with), this sim is simply a must have.

FSX comes first (with Your splendid Accusim aircraft among my favorites), but then ROF really comes next.

Graphics are top notch with high FPS and gameplay is extemely immersive.

Closeup aerial combat simply doesn´t get better (especially with the various AI mods)
Bombing with the gunsights are really cool as well as the new weapon mods available.

Lewis, the RoF updater works through the RoF sartup GUI window - no .exe patches to download (as far as I know!). There should be an "update" button on the bottom of the window. Click it, follow the rest of the windows, and you should be good to go!

The native updater doesnt have a pause button so I can't do it over several days either. I cant get the sim to run at the moment as it takes me to the update box.

Jason, any chance of an update or manual procedure in this area for those with boxed copies (Purchased mine 2011 at duxford I think) or lower connections to update?

Lewis,

It's easy man. I don't understand why you are so frustrated as our system is quite flexible. Simply download the latest Client archive (1.026b)(4.47GB) from our website at say work where you have a stronger connection. http://riseofflight.com/tryrof/en Save it to a thumb drive or disk and bring it home and install it. Then just use the Update feature in the launcher to download the latest update which is 1.027 and is much smaller than the original archive. Update size range is usually a couple hundred MB or less on average so it's not a huge download. If you already have an account simply login one time to unlock the content you previously purchased. Do not try to re-activate! Not necessary. If you don't have an account go ahead and activate the Free2Play version which will create an account. Activating and/or Logging In takes very little bandwith. After you've logged in once all you need to do is choose Login Offline to play 3 of the 5 modules offline. If you want Career and MP you'll need to be logged in, but this again does not take serious bandwidth and can be managed on slower connections ok once you have all the updates.

And Lewis, people who have a boxed copy from long ago have simply downloaded our latest archive at some point to get caught up. The early disks are considered quite obsolete due to the big update size. It's just simpler to downlod the latest archive and re-install. Once you have a good, functioning recent version of ROF installed, just copy the entire folder somewhere safe and use that next time as the base install for any future re-installs since the update sizes will be smaller. After each update just make a safe backup. We do not use registry entries so do not worry about that stuff. Copy and delete your ROF folder as many times as you wish or move it wherever you want.

Also, I suggest anyone who has been out of the ROF loop download and read our new User Manual. Covers everything in detail. 100+ pages. http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=27806

I hope that helps and you'll soon see why we do it the way we do it. Jus get caught up and you can manage you install very easily.

Jason

Hello Jason,

sorry I didnt mean to come across frustrated, just a bit jealous as the screenshots are always so good and ive been locked out a while. Thanks for the advice, I thought that might be the case but wasnt sure so didnt want to install the F2P version. I am not that internet disabled, as I am an avid steam user. However not being able to pause the download and start it another time was I think the issue for me.

Ill grab a copy on Monday at work, and get her fired up for some lawn darts, gotta love that damage model thumbsup
