Yeah Mag, you might remember she was looking onto law enforcement and passed all the state exams, interviews and even was was accepted to one town but at tier 3 (bumped by former military people). She took an EMT course to give her a little preference and found she really liked it. Now she is a 68W, combat medic. Actually she graduates on Aug 20th, she is on an FTX right now. Then off to Ft L.Wood MO for her first Duty Station. She Loves the army.

They call it Relaxin' Jackson. It's not hooah! basic training like Fort Knox, Fort Sill and Fort Benning are known for.

That's for sure. I also went through Basic at Ft. Jackson. A friend of mine specifically asked to be sent to Benning for boot camp exactly because of Ft. Jackson's reputation.

Otherwise, yes, nice pic. smile I have some photos from that area as well on graduation day.

I'll tell you what. I originally went to basic at Jackson back in '91. I reclassed to a 19D at Knox in '01. I didn't see anything easier at Jackson. Basic training just kind of sucks all around no matter where you are. The only difference is Knox has/had OSUT.

grunt

By the way Hammer, that is definitely a pic to be proud of! crew

I went through Basic at Fort Jackson in the early 80's on what was known as "Tank Hill".

When I showed the pictures of it we were all given after Graduation to my uncle, a retired CSM with 28 years of service, he pointed out that he went though Basic in the barracks right behind mine....30 years prior in 1954. We had hot water ONE day...graduation day. The windows all leaked and let the cold/rain in and we had to run those Army stove heaters to stay warm, along with a real "fire watch" to make sure they didn't burn the barracks up. They condemmed the buildings that we lived in right after we graduated and started tearing them down less than a month later.

It might have been "relaxin'" in the later years, but there was nothing "relaxin'" about my BT time at Fort Jackson at all.
