Hey, I'm what you would call a left-wing-European who also did all I could to avoid the mandatory military service on my day, and I was deeply moved by your article.

Who cares about the politics. You where bringing a dead son to his parents and you did the right thing. We all have our part to play in life, and if we all played it in such a respectful manner, the world would be a better place. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this article from your heart. Like many here I got a little misty eyed too.

As a full time member of the Indiana Air National Guard my base has had it's fair share of fallen soldiers returning home with Dignified Transfer Honors. The entire base stops everything. There is no noise from the flightline. We give families privacy on our flightline to be with their loved one as we all go line up on the main road from the flightline to the main gate. As the hearse and family pass we give a sharp salute until they have left the base on their final ride home.

The most recent one was just a few weeks ago with a kid from a very small town about 30 miles south of our base. From the news reports people were lined up all along the route, and an estimated 750 motorcycles (Freedom Riders and Legion Riders) escorted the procession.

It's nice to read your tribute and see there are a lot of very caring people out there. More than we sometimes realize.
