Wife finally allowed me to buy a tablet.
Actually just because she could use a new phone too, but thatīs another point... wink

Well, truth is I know next to nothing when it come to tablets.
All I know is Iīd like to avoid I-Stuff and actually want some Android stuff. I even like the name more.

What would I use it for?
- Coupled with my pc for Sims manual reading/emergency procedure/map checking/that app Touch Pilot one
- Manual reading when not on the pc
- Web browsing

Definitely not for cool 3d games and such.

Maybe Iīd like to be able to play some old goodie game for DOS with DosBOX and such.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks a bunch.

I bought the Lenovo Ideapad K1. After using it, the only thing that I wish I had done was get a tablet with a windows operating system. It uses Android. Lenovo says that they will have an ideapad coming out with a windows operating system. I like the 10 inch screen rather than a 7 inch screen.

What is the issue of not having a Windows OS?
I can only imagine no direct compatibility with software...

Is file sharing a pain too?

Were there any at the time you bought your tablet? With upcoming Windows8 tablets, do we know if they do everything better, or do you know if they do the things you want them to do? How open or how closed is Windows8 on the tablet?

BTW, have you looked into changing the things that don't work for you, with an app or a custom ROM?

I guess I am just so used to a windows operating system and how to navigate through a file system. It is more of a preference thing like I prefer MS Office rather than documents to go or some other app. I would prefer folder and file navigation be more like windows. I prefer Adobe rather than ezPDFpro. I did buy a bluetooth keyboard to use when I have to do a lot of typing.

Performance wise, I have no problems with the speed, memory, storage and stuff like that. Ive used a friends ipad and I had an iphone. I have experienced Android. So it is only a personal preference issue.

So I should have wrote, "Be sure you are satisfied with and will enjoy working with the operating system that comes with the tablet.

I really wonder how much freedom you will have on a windows8 tablet.

You do have basic access to the files with the "my files" application, but not to the root, only the SD-card and "external_sd".

If you're ok with the seven inch form factor, absolutely the Nexus 7. The hardware is awesome for the price. And, really, if you're going to go Android and care about software updates the Nexus line is the way to go.

I'm not sure what you mean by "open". It allows appearance customization just like other Android devices do. I'm not sure whether the bootloader is locked down or not, you'd have to Google around. But you shouldn't need Cyanogenmod or anything like that. The whole point of the Nexus series of devices is mostly two things:
- Google assists the hardware manufacturer for nearly flawless compatability/timely software updates. You should be getting updated versions of Android as they come out within two weeks (vs. several months/years, or never for non Nexus devices). These are essentially Android reference devices, Google tests and builds Android using these devices. I can't emphasize this point enough, it is not uncommon for Android devices to receive updates very, very late relative to the release of the OS because the manufacturers have little to no incentive to update them.
- It is a "pure" Android UX (often called a "pure Google experience"). No manufacturer customization/skinning (which is usually awful). The manufacturer also can't preload any software on the device.

There is not a 10" equivalent currently, though maybe around November when the Nexus line typically gets updated?

Great info Vertical!

Iīm sorry... by open I mean, can I upload software into the tablet? If I buy the DOSBox app, can I upload into the tablet all my DOS original games I have? Through Bluetooth, maybe?

Can I Upload my music CD? DVD movies?

That is, can I "openly" play with it as it was a PC?

I hereby declare that I have no piratesque intent with this...
