Road Kill had been up for 13? hours, I dunno but it was dark. Namaste and I found the Tunguskas - or they found us. But then the server threw a ping timeout message... Over the past weekend it ran stable. Last Friday night was much better than before.

We switched it over to Ants, and I watched the first few minutes from the Red side. When we flew Ants last night the guys in the mission - tomcat, XRay, raven, Wheel, who am I missing - these guys shredded the Red forces by blowing up the ant farms before they could spawn the new red ants. So this idea came to me that the prep time before a factory spawns was way too long. Some time ago I switched it from about 5 minutes to 24 -- so those guys ^^^^ had TONS of time to kill the bunkers - and they were coordinating their strikes.

I just changed the prep time (where the red flares are going off) to short times in the beginning to longer times as the Red forces reach the Blue bases. Now the prep times go from about 1 1/2 minutes for the furthest away factories to about 12 minutes for the factories near the Blue bases.

Ants is up.

Later today we switch to 'Back To School', I do believe.

Back To School mission is in selected theaters and will go public in about 10 minutes.

Ahh - we switched over to it about an hour ago and there is a lot to do on both sides of the aisle. It will restart - here is a part of the brief:

---
"Back To School"
Somebody did not get the lesson plan.

Blue:
A-10C 16xRunway Start

Red:
A-10C 8xAir Start
Ka-50 4xRunway Start

---

General Vaz is at it again, maybe in a last desparate attempt to pull his red coalition together. Political pundits think it is a bad move for the Red Democratic Republic (RDR). Some think the General is dead and that the RDR is hiding behind his image.

The United Nations is calling for restraint.

The Blue Liberation Front (BLF) is surprised at this attack at Beslan. There is no strategic value, in fact the city is difficult to approach on a broad front. Traffic is restricted at river crossings.

---

General Vaz has vowed to take down the monument to "the imposters of our struggle", and blamed the BLF authorities for "a terrible tragedy" in Beslan. He said he was "cruelly mistaken" and that he was "not delighted by what happened there", but also added to be "planning more Beslan-type operations in the future because we are forced to do so."

---

The RDR and General Vaz must be stopped.

---

RDR forces have been assembling for weeks - here and there, and catching notice of BLF eyes.

The red RDR forces suddenly staged an attack on Beslan - but uncoordinated.
Blue BLF reinforcements are arriving at the airport to defend the city and protect the monument.

As more BLF forces arrive it appears that the RDR is in disarray. BLF intelligence reports that General Vaz is missing.

The RDR seems to have lost control of the Beslan attack. It remains to be seen if red forces will launch air strikes - if they do the BLF will be in serious trouble.

---

Designer's Notes
Mission by Wrecking Crew

Blue wins by:
Killing all 13 red tank groups (80% damage). These tank groups are found between Beslan and the two waypoints to the south east - Surza Bridge and Yugni Ferry.

Red wins by:
1. Capturing Beslan Airbase - kill all blue units there and a red support column will advance to the base.
2. Clearing all blue ground units from Mozdok Airbase.

This mission is intended for hosting on Eno's Firehouse. Please ask for permission for any other use.

Some of the quotes in this mission come from:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beslan_school_hostage_crisis

When I realized that Beslan and its history are a part of the Balkan's Map, I wanted to do a General Vaz bad-guy mission around it, with lots of enemy (red) tanks on the ground ready for a sucker-punch.

Reading the history of Beslan's SNO should make anyone reflect about the differences that drive peoples apart.

This mission is using the recent history of the area in a story-line of DCS A-10C missions.

---

Red Task

Red RDR pilots -
This mission pits RDR Client aircraft against the BLF A-10Cs.

The BLF side has A-10C's only.

If the RDR a/c can clear Beslan AB then support units will move in to capture the base.

The RDR must also clear Mozdok Airbase to win.

General Vaz has communicated that He will join our forces at Beslan Airbase.

Blue Task

Defend the Beslan City unit-buildings from destruction. Red armor groups have built up around Beslan. A few columns are now moving against the city.

If RDR armor can reach the city then insurgents are expected to join their fight. Prevent the enemy units from attacking the city and airbase. All enemy units are south east of Beslan.

Blue A-10C pilots be aware that all other a/c in this mission are enemy.

Enemy fixed wing aircraft may launch from the Tbilisi tri-ports area. Red Ka-50s are rumored.

Hold the presses - Nuke Plant is up next -

Situation:
A-10Cs, Air & Ramp Start
Ka-50's Ramp Start
Blue Liberation Front (BLF)
Red Democratic Republic (RDR)

Destroy Four Nuke Plants
Beware lots of air defense - this mission is heavy on AD and reinforecements are pouring in.

The Red Democratic Republic (RDR) government captured four nuclear plants around Nalchik. These plants were closed for 30 years because of poor maintenance and lack of funds. The plants were scrubbed of nuclear material under internalional pressure. But oil and gas has brought enough money back into the hands of the RDR to bring these plants on-line once again.

Red team reinforcements are enroute to all four nuke sites - Igla, Strella, Tunguska and Tor units are expected.
An SA-10 missile site is 30 miles to the north east of the target area - it is just in range - stay away! - head 225 to avoid. Do not stray north east of the nuke plants.

These nuke sites contain buildings that are on the fringe of old experiments.

--

Blue Task:
Blue Forces of Freedom (BFF)
A-10C Air Start
20,000 feet
Big bombs
Mavericks

A-10C & Ka-50 Ramp Start
Mineralyne Vody
Tower: 135
Runway 12

Set Group ID = 11, Own Jet ID = Flight #

ZU-23's are expected at all highway river bridges.

(To kill a nuke site take out the AAA, vehicles and watchtowers w/in 1000 meters of the cooling tower.)

Nuke Plants 1 & 2
In Kyzburun, 15 miles NW of Nalchik air base. Air defense and armor units are in the area. Reinforcements are expected within one hour, including Strella SA-9s.
Bomb the cooling towers which are waypoints. Destroy all additional nuclear plant buildings and fuel farms. These two plants must be destroyed and will be a lesser threat than Nuke Plants 3 & 4. Destroy all surrounding buildings. In hot!

Nuke Plants 3 & 4
In Nartan, 5 miles east of Nalchik.
An SA-15 TOR is at the Nalchik air base. Its last known location is a waypoint near Nalchik air base.
Destroy all nuclear palnt assets. Nuclear plant cooling towers 3 and 4 are waypoints.

Just finished up Back To School after it had run all night.

A big shout out to XRay_Specs for coming up with this idea. XRay set the grueling schedule and Eno provided the server - Eno's Firehouse. I sure enjoyed the week-long sequence of all the missions, beginning with 104th Moa's Operation Rampant Bear. Lot's of good sim time.

Thanks to everyone who got a chance to attend - met a few new folks - and look forward to more flight time with everyone.

THANK YOU SimHQ for providing this place to meet and organize ourselves around our favorite hobbies!

I'm saddened by the fact I wasn't able to fly with you guys more often but I'm happy that everyone seemed to have a good time with it. I'd like to start building a campaign with crew that actually runs with win lose logic and missions on both sides of victory and defeat. I remember that with other campaigns I've flown in the past if in one mission you destroyed a bridge, that bridge would be destroyed in subsequent missions. Dead vehicles would be left charred in place... It really let you sink into the sim and being a part of it.

I'm not sure that functionality exists at this point unless you went in after and could "add" in the modifications needed as per your win lose triggers. If certain units are killed for the win lose logic to take hold- then the next mission could have these dead targets placed in the appropriate spot.

Or perhaps the campaign editor side of things is set up differently?

I guess my inexperience in these sims showed through this last week - amazing how quickly you drop the ball when you go and fly something else for a while.

Was nice to meet you on TS, eno - shame I couldn't stay until after you came back.

Thanks all for putting this on.

We run the same missions throughout Johnny... I expect we will see you in the server in the future! Be cool to have a mission where a-10s support sharks instead of the other way around.
