you could order a cheap Socket 1155 CPU as a temporary one, and RMA the i5-3570K CPU. (there are Celeron's for Socket 1155 for like $50-$60 for Dual Core on NewEgg).
and when your i5-3570k gets back you can keep the Celeron as a backup.
The fact that the System wont boot with anymore than 1 core enabled points to the CPU, On My AMD CPU I can Run Single Core, 2, 4, 6, and 8.. Windows doesn't have a problem booting in any configuration.
98% Sure its the CPU, take it one step at a time, Replace the CPU first, if the problem persists, RMA the mainboard.
there are a small number of cases where a pin in the mainboard's socket is bent, but those situations are rare.
so if you're gonna take out the CPU, glance inside the socket with a flashlight to see if any of the pins are bent.
also look on the bottom of the CPU for any abnormal things, you should see slight indentations on the contact points from the pins, thats it.

OK...thanks, I can call them in a half hour. I'll just order the replacement now...and they can take it off my bill, when they get mine....hopefully. But even then, three days makes it 'Monday'. ------------------------------ Question:...When you say "That's it" (plez read your post)....do you mean if the indentations are on the Pins of the CPU, thats whats wrong? Or that if I see indentations on the MOBO socket "that's what's wrong"....? Or 'should' there be indentations on the ends of the pins? Question:..And do I just pull the thing out with my finger tips?....Or use a plastic 'pry bar'....how hard do you have to pull to get it out?...is there a way to do that safely? Sorry to bother you Skate.....but, I'd be lost without some help all along, and diagnosing the problem. I appreciate the time your taking....I would have run out of cash paying you if you weren't so generous. Your fee would have been as much as my system, by now.... .....thanks. I'll examine the MOBO very carefully also...hate to think of the 'possibilities'....

thats it , as in the indentations from the pins should be the only marks on the under side of the cpu.
you should be able to use you finger to pull it up out of the socket. Just make sure you're grounded by touching the case so you dont fry it with a static discharge.

OK...ordered the new CPU...I'll pay and they'll reimburse me. 2nd day will cost and extra 18 bucks. But it will get here by Friday. Hope I don't see a 'crack' in the MOBO when I take it out, or worse, bent pins on the CPU. So you're saying the indentations on the pins is NORMAL...and not my fault...right?

yeah, the indentions are from the contact with the Pins in the socket. Intel a while back switched to putting the pins inside the socket because they realized people were bending the pins when they installed the CPU. So the Bottom of an intel CPU now is a grid of contact points, you set the CPU on the Socket, and close the retention bracket which pushed the CPU down into the Pins. Inspection and Install instructions from Intel: Socket Pins Article from Intel: http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-030850.htmIndentions from a I7-9xx, might have changed a lil for SB and IB though.

Read the articles. Looked at my cpu and pins on the board...but not with a microscope, a magnifying glass, still didn't see any bent pins, but also I didn't see the marks of contact on the cpu. So maybe it wasn't pushed down hard enough. Or maybe I just can't see it without a microscope.
Or...maybe....it's just a bad processor?
My new one is packed and ready for shipping, I've got the RMA printed with the UPS label, and packed up, will ship back today, and receive my new one Friday.
Time will tell.
Seems to me, once you install a cpu on a MOBO, the pins on the MOBO will be bent, making it hard for the next cpu to make contact? Is that true?

main board should be good then, even with no marks there was prolly still contact, or the main board wouldn't have recognized the CPU at all. Intel may have improved the Socket Design with Socket 1155,
The Pins on the Board will be fine, your next CPU will install fine, i know people that swap out CPUs on almost a Daily Basis to test CPUs, and they've never had an issue.
i think this is just a case where a CPU slipped through Intel's Quality Assurance Testing w/ a bad core or 2 or 3... it happens more than people realize,
Which is why AMD is selling off 3 CORE CPUs and Special Dual Cores. (Quadcores with a Failed Core(s) and L3 Cache Disabled.)
In my History of Buying Parts and Assembling, I've had a few Bad Ram Sticks, a few Graphics Cards that Fail or have problems from day 1, 1 CPU Die within Days, Booted fine a few times, then started having problems, then system froze and never booted. 1 Quadcore That I Built for my neighbor, the CPU Cores were all Stable on Stock Settings, but only 3 of 4 Cores would overclock.

Thanks for the time Skate. Don't know what I'd have done, if I had no where to turn. I wouldn't have even started this build. I could have 'never' figured out what was wrong. The people here who help us newbies, spending time with us, for free...putting up with us...are rare in this world. ...And people like me, appreciate it very much. Can't express that enough. I'd probably just bought an Alienware, and paid $3000 bucks for it. And an OS loaded with junk I don't want. I couldn't have afforded that, I wouldn't be simming. My last hobby....other than 'shooting'. After this box, I'll be feeding the birds, and rockin' in a chair. I've done most everything in my life...been a great ride...I appreciate you guys keeping me in the 'game', a little longer. I'm running out of money, and physical abilities. I'm 65, but in good shape, considering. I can still split wood, but the next day, I'm too sore to move. Nobody gets out alive...... It'll happen to everyone, how you take it, is who you are. I appreciate knowing the 'few'. You'll find they're a rare breed, IMO. Hope this doesn't embarrass anyone, I just have a bad habit of saying what I'm thinking, and I'm a very 'open' person. Life is short, if you don't say it, it'll never get said. When my new CPU comes....I'll start another thread. Hopefully, it'll be a short one...

You wouldn't need to start a new one. I skipped this thread a couple of times and it was halfway when I first looked at it.
