I've got all the HDWR installed, except the video card....I need room to work before I plug it in.
This is where I'm at;

My problem is I'm not sure how to hook up 'which' SATA cables.
I've only got one cables left, and it comes from the front of the case.
I think it's for a portable HDD. A red wire on a 932 Coolermaster case.
Does this just plug into one of the black 3gb sockets on the MOBO?
Can't figure out how it gets power.

I have 2 SATA hard drives installed, but only one plugged in. Want to boot it first, then plug in the second HDD.
Not too sure about 'partitions'.

------

Below are my specs;

ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CASE Cooler Master HAF 932 RC-932-KKN5-GP R
PSU CORSAIR HX750 750W RT
Intel CPU i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) 77W Quad-Core HD Graphics
MEM CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP SLI Support
2 - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s
LITE-ON Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 8X BD-ROM SATA 12X Blu-ray Burner with Blu Ray 3D Feature
ASUS 24X DVD Burner - Black SATA Model
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO Cooler
MNTR SMSNG LED 23.6" 2MS HDMI
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit - OEM

The cooler fit, by about 1/16 of an inch from the Corsair RAM.... wink

Anyone have a Sabertooth Z77 MOBO with a 932 case?

I unplugged all the case fans extensions....and just used the small 3 pin fan plug to connect them to the MOBO.
The below photo's show one of the three extensions I took off, to expose the small 3 pin plug.
They come with a power socket, I disconnected it, and just connected the small 3 pin connector onto the MB.
Did that with all three case fans.

I would hope they get their power from the MOBO.....or do I need the extensions and they need the power from the PSU to operate???? But then I doubt I'll get a fan speed reading from my MOBO.
Someone with a Coolermaster 932 case will know what I'm talking about.

Any advise would be appreciated.....or we'll be eating on the coffee table forever...cause all this, is just piled onto my dinning room table...... wink

Question 1::
Sata2 and Sata3 cables are physically the same, the Interface Throughput on the Host controller and on the device controller is the difference.
However, Some Mainboards (Specifically Intel's) Have Mixed Controllers because of an Intel Controller Limit of 2 Channels.
This is why you have 2x SATA3 (6G), 4x SATA2 (3G) and a different Set of SATA3 (6G)

So:
-Make Sure Your HDDs Are on Intel's SATA3 (6G) Ports. (Brown Connectors) [Top 2, SATA6G1 (Windows) and SATA6G2 (Storage)]
-Put the OPTICAL Drive and eSATA from the front of the Case on Intel's SATA2 (3G) Ports (Black) [SATA3G3 and SATA3G4 ]

Grey Ports are ASMedia SATA3 (6G) Ports, basically it's a addon 3rd Party Controller because of limitations Using Intel's Integrated Controller
A lot of people say they are slower and are prone to driver/controller conflict issues.

Question 2::
The Red SATA from the front of the case is an eSATA Port, You just plug it into the SATA2 (3G) Port.

Question 3::
Use the Cables Directly from the PSU to the GFX Card,

Most GFX Cards today come with adapters just in case your Power Supply doesnt have the Connections Needed.
I wouldnt recommend drawing 150w from the HDD Connectors. which is what the Adapters do.

And Yeah, I Run all my Fans either Directly from the Mainboard Headers or from a Fan Controller for monitoring/conrol purposes.

I really appreciate the time Skate...that explained it so that even I could understand it.
We'll be eating off the dinning room table by the end of the day!
Not much of that, was in the book.

One thing...about the 2 Hard Drives, I bought two exactly the same, if I connect them both before the first boot, will I be able to use just one for storage of stuff I choose to store (like a backup of a game), away from the C: drive? I read your post as the top port is for the OS drive and the bottom one for storage. That's what I want.
Or will it confuse the OS on first boot?
Will it just show up as a second HDD? ie: drive C: and drive D: - then I pick when I want to enter drive D:, and drop off data? That's what I want.

Or...(my worry) will it create a RAID system....which I think is very complicated, after reading the manuel.

Should I just boot the box first, with ONE HDD plugged in, then after installing the OS, boot it again after plugging in the second HDD? I heard that is easier for a newbie...I've only built one other case, and it was WinXP on an ASUS MOBO, seemed easy. I might do the advanced BIOS thing when I first boot. But the RAID thing worries me.

Dunno.

It's my last problem.

So HDD for Windows goes into The Top Brown Port, and the Storage into the Bottom Brown Port.

Just set BIOS boot sequence to DVD, HDD0, HDD1.

Windows Setup will ask you to choose a drive to format and use for windows, (usually lists the Drive name and hardware address)

The other drive will remain untouched until you choose to format it/partition it.

whichever drive you tell windows to install to automatically becomes C: when your in windows.,

I personally like to run Windows Setup with only 1 drive plugged in, less hardware drivers for Setup to load and stuff.

I usually hook everything up and just unplug the power on all the HDDs except the one Im installing windows on.

Once setup is finished and windows is installed, power down, hook up power to 2nd HDD, boot.

Wise words indeed.
I had a system once with identical drives and I was doing a re-install.One of the drives had all my back-ups on.I got confused and nearly installed the OS to that drive, thereby nearly deleting all my 'precious things'.

Ahhhhhhhh.....

All ready to boot it up.
Reached behind the old keyboard to plug the USB port into the back of my new case....the plug was green, and 'round'.
And very, very old.

Figured I'd try my mouse...since it's new.
Read that my new MOBO BIOS will take direction from a mouse...great!
But my other mouse, is a wireless gaming mouse, and won't operate until the OS system is installed, and program downloaded, AFAIK.

So...back to NewEgg....ordered a backlite USB keyboard, cheap USB mouse, SD..etc card reader, and Ethernet card...just in case.
Should be he MONDAY....because of the weekend, no UPS deliverys on Saturday. Another $60.

I must be the luckiest man alive.

I was going to drive 110 miles to pick up one at the local stores....(all are 55 miles away, in any direction)...but when I called they didn't have a good lite USB keyboard, and it was almost $100 for a good gaming board at Best Buy, backlite, wireless, I wouldn't be able to connect it until after the boot AFAIK. And the gas would have been more than $50 in my Stealth. Just isn't worth it.

I've only got until 8-29-12 and I'll have to deal with the manufacturer, won't be able to RMA anything.
This thing is ready to go....just forgot the basic thing....a frickin' keyboard.... rolleyes

I'll wait...I got all the above for $60 from New Egg, free delivery, no gas.

BB should Have PS/2 -> USB Adapters, so should radio shack, etc..

Wired USB devices will work, but only basic Functions, No Special Keys would work.
All standard keys will work, Multi-Media keys and Gaming keys wont.
Same with Mice, X/Y Axis and 2 buttons will work, any 3dAXis, gaming buttons etc wont work.

least you can power up and watch the bios screen for the first time...

it should stick on that screen too since you have no KB/Mouse input nor bootable media.

My Logitech wireless mouse is recognized from the get go with Win 7 so I imagine there is some generic driver for the USB plug transmitter.

Thanks guys, but I hesitate to just 'peek' at the BIOS and not be able to do anything, even 'exit'..?
I do have my gaming mouse, wireless, but it's wireless to a USB connected 'holding/charging' stand...that is USBed to my old machine. So IMHO it connects to the charging stand, then to the OS.
So I don't know if that would work....even if it did, I wouldn't be able to do the things I want to, once in the BIOS.

So, maybe I'll just wait, I ordered it 2 day ASAP, and paid the 'rush' order fee, but still I can't believe UPS will deliver it tomorrow, and they don't deliver here on Saturdays. frown

Could be worse I suppose.

Stupid mistake....just never thought ahead that far....actually booting this thing.

It's frickin' beautiful....after waiting years for this....I can wait another couple days. My old box was bending the 7900G fan, heating up just playing COH and FOW, with all the MODs. I cut my own gaskets to keep the blades from hitting the housing, just to keep it running...lol. The NVIDIA service techs and I are pals... wink . They sent me extra blades, one of them, on the sly, sent me a whole new card...but they were old by then...but the fastest I could handle on my system. I OC'ed it to 3.4GHs.
All I could play was Pacific Fighters. Now, there's a whole new world out there for me.

And a P-51 that fly's like a Mustang...something I've always just 'dreamed' of, since EAW. FB's was a big disappointment, when it came to the Mustang. They never even gave it rockets, they gave the guns 'Dispersion'...actually they 'neutered' it. Why, I have no idea.

Thanks a lot for the help.
Doesn't mean much to some people, but I just don't part with this kind of cash, just for myself, very often.
Maybe I shouldn't have this time....but you only go around once...this is my hobby. And who knows, the City of Detroit may just take our private pension money, and run. They're sure trying. I may have 'nothing', in a couple years. We don't qualify for social security. Maybe I'll have to give up my citizenship, and seek back in over the border wink .

I never got my 48' Morgan sailboat....we retired 'up north', her idea, so the wife is gonna have to take the trade...new carpet for a new box...lol....I can wait a couple days.

Wait till she hears about the Warthog HOTAS....don't know how that's gonna go over.... rolleyes
