In response to some requests to provide a bit more background information about the Georgian Hammer campaign, Matt Wagner pulled a rabbit out of his hat and revamped the campaign to add more detailed briefings, tweak some settings, add new voiceover and text, and even added support for users with the Combined Arms add-on to use the F10 map to move ground units specific to the mission. Also included are missions that start on the ramp and the following mission which is a new introduction mission to the campaign. These are welcomed changes that add even more immersion to the DCS World and I’m sure we’ll see continuous evolution as Eagle Dynamics adds ever more powerful features to their mission and campaign editor. Many thanks to “Wags” for the improvements!

The campaign briefing describes who we are, why we are here, and what we are tasked to do:

A short sortie has been scheduled to give us an overview of the region we are flying in and to give us a look at the disposition of friendly and enemy forces.

We are greeted by our wingman who has the lowdown on what the situation is. He’ll fly along with us and give us a radio tour of the nearby points of interest. The waypoints loaded in the CDU will guide us along the tour.

Another change to the campaign is the inclusion of full cold start procedures. I (personally) enjoy doing these because it gets me ever more familiar with the aircraft and also helps me methodically set up my systems for the upcoming mission.

The tower clears us to taxi to the runway and my wingman/guide falls in behind me.

Airborne out of Batumi…

The waypoints are preloaded in the flight plan, so it is just a matter of following the guidance on the HUD and TSD.

Coming up on the town of Batumi north of the airfield…

We continue north up the coast a short distance…

Smoke just north of our position indicates areas where enemy and friendly units are exchanging some indirect artillery fire…

The tour continues back out to the west where our armor units are arranged with their muzzles pointing north…

The tower clears us to land after our short flight and I actually wonder if the A-10C has a max landing weight. We still have 10,000 lbs. of fuel and a full ordnance load. Vref speed is pretty fast with such a load and we maintain around 140 knots to maintain the green donut on the AOA indicator.

Down safely after the short tour..

Nice overview of the battle area and good background information on the reasons we are here. Nice job Matt..!

Cool! Curious as to where you got the new Campaign. I always thought the lack of a ramp start hurt the current campaign. I always sit on the runway messing with all the settings I normally mess with during start up. Its almost like I am doing a mini ramp start on the runway! Also I must say that is quite the load out for a FAM flight.

I believe it will be sent up to the Eagle Dynamics files section this week. I'm not sure if it will also be packaged into the main installer or not.

Wags did a great job on it - as to be expected since he has a long track history of making great campaigns and mission scenarios for sims (recall some of the Jane's F-18 campaigns?)...

For those that study and understand the complexities of the Mission Editor you can really make some cool missions with a lot of immersion. I think we saw that with some of the Black Shark campaigns. I hope that user community rallies behind DCS World and starts cranking out custom missions and campaigns. I'd do it, but I'm not a very good mission builder. It takes a special skill.

And yeah, I agree that doing the full start actually helps out the whole picture. I mean, it only takes about 4 minutes to accomplish and it really adds a lot to the mission. I can understand some people wanting to start out on the runway though too..just different strokes for different folks.. smile

Hey that's great!

Personally I don't care either way as far as full start up or not (I'm a RWin+Home guy myself) but it's really cool he took the time to revamp the campaign and add a little more immersion.

Thanks for the link - makes life easier smile

Not that I can fly it yet, anyway, but will be useful if I get things sorted out.

Believe it or not, I've just (re-)started Beach's training missions in the Frog in FC1 again in prep for flying CAW.

Not enough hours in a day...

Wow I must say this is awesome! The addition of CA to move ground units(certain ones) for the mission is pretty neat.
