Hey all...copied vanilla...ran it once...got to opening screen...all good...closed out...updated to 1.2...ran game...scrambled breifing screens and odd phsyco colours hear and there...hangar screen good except for funny colours here and there...went to fly..got the gauge screen..it loaded..saw one glimpse of cockpit and crashed out...no error message just EAW Stopped Working....Extracted everything from Jels page into microprose folder (on desktop)...ran game...normal opening screen...U1.28efix04 bottom left...selections on right now in green (desktop resolution 1024 x 768)...select pilot career..all good screen except the odd perculiar pixels here and there...ok on first british career...takes a while to load...then iget good briefing screen and briefing with odd psycho pixels...continue...hangar screen works but LOTS psycho pixels...click dly...get picture of gauge...looks really good but then the gauge doesnt move and eaw crashes with no message...actually got furher BEFORE applying all the new folders...

I know ive done something wrong because when i installed it on my win7 64bit before i lost my SSD i vaguely remember the opening screen having something on right top where i could select 4or5 different plane sets.....inside the EAW folder i have an ETO-01 folder and a Planes folder...is that right?...or should the contents of these two folders actually be in the EAW folder...any help appreciated

That's right so far.
Have you installed the DirSet Picker from my page, so that you can select ETO01?
If you have, and ETO01 has been selected, then go to the "Game Set-up" so that you can choose your planesets.
ETO Careers will not work with planesets, so choose "CDF" which gives you the default planes for which careers work.

Well i got it going...i deleted the ini...reset everything to default and it started fine...then tried the different plane sets and all good...it looks like crap butbthats probably just the onboard video...occasionally i get a trippy screen but by and large its all good....its not really to fly anyway...gonna see if i can find the time to do some editing...now if i change the screens for NJ...next i have to check the planes right?...will the altered campaign..frontline...target dat thingy be a problem with new Eaw...um...also its got an old style night exe...how would i deal with that..will i have to throw it all away and start from scratch?...Can i just load the target dat into the new target editor and bring it up to snuff...as they would be a great start...curious how much work would be involved upgrading NJ as i remember having alot of fun with it...it would need some plane changes as some choices were a bit naff in hindsight....is it gonna be too big a task?

Or should i just forget it and do something else...would i be able to build new targets like i did all those years ago and have people load it intotheir stock game?...want to do something...and it is an if/when i have the time...but would be fun i think...cheers for any help

Hi Tone,

we now have night missions in the standard 1.28E exe so you wont need a special exe. The new target editor breaks the tardata file into .tfl files for each target then when you have built the target it incorporates it back into a tardata file, so using the new editor you can build any target you like and incorporate it, or by simply copy/paste and rename, you can add it at any site you like. By swapping tfl files we can also co-operate and rebuild a target set as a team effort too. If you need the tools give me a pm and I will post them over at 4shared for you...

cheers,

Pobs

Jel,
have planeset 2 loaded, (ETO late) and am currently flying a 109, P-51d and spit Vc career,
and all are working fine. Only problems I am encountering are medal-screen ctd's.
Some medals are displayed in a red-field square slightly offset from the main red-field square,
but most wont display at all. You hear the music for a few seconds, but then CTD. To get further
in the career, I have to 'not' get a medal. lol!

You DO need to have the correct planeset loaded to coincide with the correct year of your career thou.
Planeset 1 for BOB, or 1940-42, planeset 2 for 1943-45. If you use planeset 3 or 4 you will get the
Russian planes when you select British or American, but you will not, of course, get actual Russian careers.%^))

I could be wrong about that too.....maybe when you have an ETO planeset loaded, the exe also looks in the
planeset folder for the frontline.dat, .mpf and .mpc files for a career?

Tried a Russian career with ETO_01 planeset 3 loaded, and the career did indeed get it's frontline and other
info from the planeset folder! Even used the Russian voice sounds! The first mission was flown from England,
but the very next mission was flown from Vitry, and the next from Germany. This is good!

gday pobs...with regards to the night missions..i cant remember how and where the Exe was told to make it a night mission...where it gets the take off time from...guess i have some reading to do...as far as the targets go...will the editor read the altered, and subsequently longer if i remember correctly, tardata that was with NJ?...
Any tools you can upload for me would be appreciated...i have a feeling some of the planes wont have updated FMs...how does one swap them out for planes that do?...there used to be a lil program that did that..cant remember its name...and the old planepic sytem isnt used anymore, correct?...i remember it was a bugger getting them plane pics to work...i have so much to relearn lol....what was the last exe that NJ as it was would work in as i might setup an iinstall of it so i can have a look at things and make some plans for changes.....is there a new improved campaign editing tool....How many new tools are there?...id want to get my hands on anything and everything that may make it easier and spare me from too much hex editing, if at all...that does your head in!!!! if ive asked too many questions, things that cant be answered here just PM me...thanks for all and any help you guys can give me...

We have had night missions in the exe for years, without a bodge. An error in coding used the same routine for time selection as altitude and several other things, which as called "check 3". Random, low, medium, and high were values 0, 1, 2 and 3 so if you click on 3 when changing the selection it cycles back to 0. There are several instances where there are four different options and they all use the check 3 routine. Unfortunately nobody realised that with random, dawn, day, dusk, and night there are five options with night having a value of 4. The check 3 routine used switched from dusk to random, and night was never selectable despite the exe being programmed for it. In the 1.28 series we added a check 4 routine which makes night available for selection.
