just tried the latest beta patch released in the last 24 hrs (vers 1.08.18956) and the initial impression is that it solves a significant number of old chestnuts

people with recent reports of ctd's in the last few months (since prev beta patches) seem not to have the problem anymore (maybe some might, but most already report no issues)

gfx performance, slightly further improved (previous beta patched had provided the main leap forward in fpsec performance, but had introduced some new glitches like the tree's visual prob). these annoying gfx bugs from prev beta patches have now been sorted out it seems, and i havnt detected any new significant issues. the hurricane issue is fixed, bomb sight problem fixed, ....... improved AI wing-men commands, no major mass suicide problems on landing anymore (havnt tested beyond that, but i suspect not all AI commands are fixed yet).

for me, some of the biggest and most annoying issue seems to have been addressed right now, and it makes it playable for me. looking at the online servers, atag has jumped to 60 users right now so its looking good. if only they'd now address the coop issue and get some offline/online dynamic campaign servers ! hope others here have a similar positive impression, and for sure worth a try if you havnt played CoD for a while

note: this patch is BETA, so can be expected to still have some issues (hopefully just minor), if you find certain problems/issues, take a moment and post them in the 1C feedback thread for bug reports.
note 2: for those who dont have a high end monster pc, reduce building density and detail to reduce the visibility distance for "building popup"

Have tried a number of patch sites, and seem to be hamstrung with download speed around 12 KB/s... nope
And this is at 5 AM my time zone. Was the same last night. Everyone and their dog on this maybe?

Edit: yes, others reporting miserable D/L speeds as well, however, those lucky enough have good things to say after install.

Have you tried the torrent links Fearless posted in the original patch thread, some are significantly faster than others. The direct downloads are much slower.

I now have issues I didn't before, a lot of stuttering down low, occasional CTD's, lowered my settings and it got more noticeable. It was much better in the last Beta.

Edit: I tried playing with some settings, started with all on High then gradually scaled it back, no grass, fewer trees and buildings shadows till I got to all medium and nothing helped, then I went back in and removed the UBI logo (I forgot before), incredible! everything got instantly smoother so reminder to everyone to remove that little gem.

remember to follow the correct patch install instructions, eg restore your CoD to a legitimate steam integrity status (with the steam checker), delete cache files etc, then install patch etc... exact instructions are provided in the 1c patch release thread

that is more likely to be the issue then an actual patch quality problem (going by initial feedback from other users, including myself)

Yes, did all that as usual, but still got two ctd's last night.
I've got rid of the ubi logo, but not had chance to fly it again yet, I'll do that tonight... but I did run the black death track and it ran smoother than before!
Looking at other forums, there are alot of thumbs up.. but there are still people getting ctd's and other problems, so it's still not 100%.
If I can actualy play the thing without it crashing again, then that will be a huge step forward for me...

Agreed TROOPER, I had a CTD last night and one just now, this after about 3 or so hours of flying. I had only one Ctd in the previous 400 hours of flying. Still much better IMO

I'm finding that the image in game is now far too bright though... If I'm in the Tiger Moth, and look back at the instructor, the glare is sometimes so bright I can't even make him out!
Also in the training mission, it's almost impossible sometimes to see the rings that you have to fly through.. Has something changed in that regard?
I can't remember it being like that before!

You should be able to adjust your video card brightness, contrast, etc to suit. I prefer and set everything darker, but thats usually a reflection of our Monitor and Video settings, not the game itself. Not sure if there is an ingame Gamma setting.

Played 3 missions tonight, got one ctd.. early on in the first mission, but then played for over an hour without another one.
Did the bomber intercept mission, 6 Hurricanes bouncing 9 Stukas, got one down with another damaged.
Flew back to Hawkinge and as I landed, two of my flight piled in, and the dust almost brought my game to a standstill..
I don't know.. I have a quad core machine, win7 64bit, 8gb of ram, a GTX570 video card, and it still seems its not enough.. lol!

no that isnt enough smile if you had a current high end 3 gb gfx card and a current model intel 6 core (or 8, but they dont clock as high) @ 4ghz + and use a resolution of 1680x960 or so, you could maybe try that again (looking at posters with monster pc's running at 1920 x 1080, they dont seem to have issues with dust/smoke clouds, and yes there are a few people with pc's like that still able to run settings at near max)

as with the original release of il2 about 10 years ago, people with high end pc's could play it well on MEDIUM settings when first released (err and remember the performance of fs-X from microsoft when it first came out ?), and as hardware improved over the following months/years gradually more features were activated in the sim that made it even more demanding.

and looking at reports from other people in different forums, i can see almost nobody still having ctd's anymore, so if thats still an issue for you you might need a fresh steam install (easy and quick to do if you saved a copy from your hd after original install)and a clean current beta patch added. i also cant see other people complaining about new color/brightness issues, so calibrate your own display (which you probably havnt done) and make sure your gfx drivers are updated (which you probably have done). there are several threads at 1c about common sense advice on how to check our own pc's are optimized and running well, given the previous justified complaints and the significant leap forward with the latest patch, thats the least people should do (presuming they are genuinely interested in having CoD work correctly)

Performance-wise, the patch seems solid. I actually put about 6+ hours into the game yesterday, and it's been at least 6 months since I could say that. Only CTD's I had were in the FMB, something about placing too large of a object it seems. A saved Panzer Division I had created, with logistics train, and encampments, crashes immediately if I try to throw it down. Obviously, it worked before, as I am using one of my own saved grouping.

DM seems even more off, intentionally rammed a Spittie while we were scissoring, and hit him in the outer wring. My 109 immediately blew up, and he only lost an aileron, lol.

Tree pop up is much better, although I did adjust it down to medium settings so it may be a placebo effect (less trees = less noticeable?). I did have the building circle pop up, like the trees used to be, but it wasn't nearly as dramatic, again medium settings now instead of high, so it could be more pronounced when I set it back up.

Now that I think about it, the buildings might be a bigger problem than the trees, I haven't started flying bombers again, and wonder if that effect is generated through the bombsights? Will do some testing tonight.

HURRAH! and HUZZAH!... I've just managed to play several missions without a ctd.
Believe me, that is a milestone as far as me and this game are concerned! biggrin

It is definitely a good step forward into the right direction. Yes, there are issues left, but the Sim starts to unfold its potential.

So having uninstalled CLoD a few months back due to the inability of 1C to actually show forward movement on the patch...if I want to reinstall the game will it automatically update via STEAM to the newest version or will I have to go through the old patch on top of patch on top of patch process that the old versions of IL-2 had before?

When you reinstall COD, Steam will install the sim to the last official patch. The latest beta patch you will have do download from the IC forums, but they are currently putting together the next official patch. This patch will be sent to Steam for download, but no word on when, it will depend on the success of inhouse testing after its built. This is primarily a performance/stability patch, but will probably include some fixes to the AI, FM, etc if all goes well.

No you don't get the latest beta auitomatically, but you don't have to do the 'patch on patch' thing either. Just Re-install the game and then install the lastest beta on top. Simples

I never had CTD's before, but since this beta I get them every other mission. Less stutters and bit better fps, but now CTD's.
